Be honest... if nobody was telling you that you should exercise, what would you actually choose to do? šŸ˜„

Would you rather...

šŸŠā€ā™€ļø A. Swimming or an Aqua class
šŸš¶ā€ā™€ļø B. A good walk
šŸ’ƒ C. Dancing
🌿 D. Gardening

I think we sometimes make movement sound far too serious.

It has to be a workout.
It has to be a certain number of steps.
It has to leave us feeling as though we’ve really done something.

But what about simply moving because we enjoy it?

A swim because you love being in the water.

A walk because you fancy some fresh air.

Putting some music on and having a dance around the house.

Or spending an afternoon in the garden and suddenly realising you’ve barely sat down. šŸ˜„

There are so many ways to get our bodies moving, and I think finding something we genuinely enjoy makes such a difference.

So, Friday question...

Which one are you: A, B, C or D?

And if your favourite isn’t there, tell me what I’ve missed! šŸ˜„

Why do our legs sometimes feel heavy?

It’s something people mention to me quite often.

Sometimes you may notice that heavy feeling after you’ve been sitting or standing for a long time. Other times, you may simply notice that your legs feel different at another point in the day.

And that’s an important point, because there isn’t one particular time of day when everyone experiences heaviness or swelling.

Our bodies are all different, and there can be many reasons why our legs may feel heavy.

Movement also plays an important role in supporting the normal movement of lymph through the body. Unlike our blood circulation, the lymphatic system doesn’t have a central pump like the heart, so muscle movement helps lymph move through the lymphatic system.

It’s one of the reasons I think it’s so important to become more aware of what our own body is telling us, rather than assuming everyone experiences the same thing.

When do you tend to notice your legs feeling heavier?

Is it after sitting, standing or being on your feet for long periods, or do you notice it at other times too? šŸ˜„

Monday always seems to arrive rather quickly, doesn’t it? šŸ˜„

Before you know it, the diary starts filling up, there are people to call, things that need doing, places to be... and suddenly another week is underway.

I was thinking about this because sometimes the things we actually enjoy are the easiest things to put off.

We say, ā€œI’ll go for that walk later.ā€

ā€œI’ll ring them when I have more time.ā€

ā€œI’ll get back to that class next week.ā€

And somehow, later keeps moving. šŸ˜„

I don’t think looking after ourselves always needs to mean adding another big thing to the list.

Sometimes it’s simply making a little room for something that makes us feel good.

A walk outside. Seeing someone you love. Moving your body. Getting back to something you’ve missed. Or even just having an hour where nobody needs anything from you.

So before this week gets too busy, I thought I’d ask...

What’s one thing you’d really like to make time for this week?

Why is lymphatic massage so unique?

It’s something people can find quite surprising, especially if they’re used to deep tissue massage, which can often be sore and involves much firmer, deeper, targeted muscle pressure.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is different. It is not focused on the muscles. It is focused on the lymphatic system, which is part of your immunity and hence very important.

The movements use deliberately consistent pressure and are slow and rhythmic because the technique is designed to support the natural movement of lymph rather than work deeply into the muscles.

So if you’re suffering from heavier legs, tiredness or brain fog, then come and try a Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage, which can have great results immediately after a 1-hour session and does feel very different from a deep tissue muscle massage. šŸ˜„

But that uniqueness isn’t because ā€œnothing is happening.ā€

It’s actually part of how the technique is intended to be performed.

I think this is an important distinction because we can sometimes associate stronger, deeper pressure with a more effective treatment, when really, different types of bodywork are designed for different purposes.

Sometimes the different technique and touch are there for a reason.

Are you struggling with any of these symptoms? Let’s have an informal chat and discuss your symptoms.

Who could you check in on today?

With R U OK? Day tomorrow, it got me thinking about the people in our lives we haven’t spoken to for a little while.

Sometimes someone simply pops into your mind.

And rather than thinking, ā€œI must give them a call sometime,ā€ perhaps that’s the moment to actually do it.

You don’t need to have the perfect words or know whether something is wrong.

A simple...

ā€œHow are you going?ā€

ā€œI was thinking about you.ā€

ā€œFancy a chat?ā€
..can be enough to open a conversation.

We’re all busy, and it’s very easy to assume that everyone around us is doing okay.

But sometimes a phone call, a message or a genuine check-in can mean much more than we realise.

So today, I’m keeping this one simple.

Who’s one person you could check in on?

Maybe give them a call. šŸ˜„

When was the last time you actually checked in with how your body feels?

Not because something was wrong. Just to notice.

We’re usually very good at carrying on with our day, getting things done and adjusting without really thinking about it.

Then every now and again we notice we’re a little stiffer, carrying more tension, moving differently or simply not feeling quite ourselves.

I think there’s something to be said for noticing the quieter signs rather than only paying attention when our body really demands it.

It doesn’t have to be complicated either.

How am I moving today?
Where am I holding tension?
What feels good?
What feels different?

Sometimes simply paying attention is a good place to start. šŸ˜„

What does your body usually tell you when it’s time to slow down or look after yourself a little more?

When we hear the word ā€œwellnessā€, I think we sometimes picture all the things we’re told we should be doing.

The perfect morning routine. The right exercise. Eating well. Getting enough sleep. Making time to relax.

All important, of course.

But I think wellness can be much less complicated than that.

Sometimes it’s getting back to something you’ve missed.

Moving your body because you actually enjoy it.

Spending time with people who make you laugh.

Getting outside.

Having a good conversation.

Or simply doing something that makes you feel a little more like yourself again.

After being away, I’ve been reminded that feeling well isn’t always about adding more things to our lives.

Sometimes it’s about coming back to the things that already make us feel good. šŸ˜„

What’s something that makes you feel more like yourself?

ā€œIf it doesn’t hurt, is it actually doing anything?ā€

It’s an interesting question, and one I think comes from the idea that massage needs to be deep or uncomfortable for us to feel that something is happening.

But not every type of bodywork is designed to work in the same way.

Some techniques use firmer pressure. Others are deliberately much gentler and more specific.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a good example.

The movements used in MLD are gentle, light and rhythmic because the technique is designed to support the natural movement of lymph rather than simply working deeper into the muscles.

I think sometimes we’ve become so used to the idea of ā€œno pain, no gainā€ that gentle can almost feel like it shouldn’t count. šŸ˜„

But more pressure doesn’t automatically mean better. It really depends on what you’re trying to achieve and the technique being used.

Were you surprised to learn that lymphatic massage is actually quite gentle?

I’ve been thinking about how easily we say yes.

Yes, I’ll do that.
Yes, I can fit that in.
Yes, I’ll be there.
Yes, leave it with me.

Sometimes we say it without even thinking about what that yes is actually costing us.

Because every time we say yes to something, we’re also giving it a little piece of our time, energy or attention.

And that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Some things absolutely deserve our yes. The people we love. The things that bring us joy. Opportunities that excite us. Work that feels meaningful. Even something as simple as making time for ourselves.

I think the important part is simply being a little more conscious about it.

Rather than always asking, ā€œWhat do I need to say no to?ā€ perhaps a better question is...

ā€œWhat really deserves my yes?ā€

I quite like looking at it that way. 😊

So I’ll throw the question over to you...

What’s one thing you’re choosing to make more room for at the moment?

Here’s something you may not know about your lymphatic system...

Unlike your blood circulation, which has the heart acting as a central pump, your lymphatic system doesn’t have one central pump keeping everything moving.

So how does lymph move around the body?

Everyday things such as movement, muscle activity and breathing all play a part, along with the natural contractions of the lymphatic vessels themselves.

I find this fascinating because we often don’t give our lymphatic system much thought until something draws our attention to it.

It also helps explain why Manual Lymphatic Drainage is quite different from the massage many people are used to.

MLD uses gentle, specific and rhythmic movements designed to support the natural movement of lymph. It isn’t about applying more pressure or working deeper.

Sometimes understanding a little more about how our body works can help us understand why different techniques are used too.

Now I’d love to turn this over to you...

What have you always wondered about your lymphatic system?
