Every family deserves the opportunity to welcome their baby close to home, surrounded by the people who matter most.

This week, Queensland Country Life shared the story of three sisters who each chose to have their babies here in Toowoomba.

Their story reflects something many regional families value: being able to have their baby closer to home. There are times when we lean on our colleagues and their expertise in bigger centres and we love that network of care. Whenever we can though, staying connected to family, friends, work and community can make an enormous difference during pregnancy, birth and those first few weeks with a newborn.

I’m proud to practise at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Toowoomba—a hospital with a long and proud history of caring for families across our region.

Thank you to Brooke, Courtney and Libby for generously sharing your story, and to Queensland Country Life for shining a light on the value of keeping exceptional maternity care closer to home for families across regional Queensland.

An incomparable privilege — meeting a baby whose story you have been part of from the very beginning.

Thoughtful.
Evidence-based.
Built on relationships that extend far beyond a single appointment.

From preconception through pregnancy, birth and beyond — this is what continuity of care looks and feels like. 🤍

“Thank you for delivering my baby brother.”

Medicine can be complex and demanding, but how remarkable that a handwritten note — and the perspective of a proud big sister — can crystallise it into something so special.

A little folded note.
A new baby.
A growing family. 🤍

Congratulations to this special family.

To the mothers doing the most important work there is — nurturing, protecting and loving every single day.

Motherhood is powerful in the quiet moments.
The tiny hands.
The sleepy cuddles.
The instinct to place someone else’s heart before your own.

Today celebrates mothers in every season — those holding babies in their arms, those growing families, and those carrying the love of motherhood in every form.

Happy Mother’s Day to my own mother (featured in this 1980s on-location photo from the St Vincent’s Maternity Ward), and to my wife — the mother of four incredible children, all so deeply shaped by her love, presence and care.

Happy Mother’s Day 🤍

A full day in theatre at Ipswich General Hospital — proctoring alongside Dr Ivana Rizzuto as she performed a series of robotic-assisted total hysterectomies.

Supporting experienced surgeons as they integrate robotic technology into their practice is a meaningful part of this work — refining technique, introducing new perspectives, building confidence, and maintaining the highest standards of care.

Robotic surgery represents a significant evolution in gynaecology — enhancing dexterity, visualisation, and control, and ultimately improving outcomes and recovery for patients.

A fully coordinated theatre with expert anaesthetists, experienced nursing staff, and the invaluable support of the local Da Vinci system reps. The team made the theatre environment professional, efficient, and a genuine pleasure to work in.

A huge step forward for Ipswich — and one worth celebrating. The introduction of robotic gynaecological surgery within the West Moreton Health region means more women now have access to advanced, minimally invasive care closer to home. This is a good news story for women west of Brisbane.

I’m proud to play a part in advancing robotic-assisted gynaecological surgery, and in supporting colleagues as they expand their skillset.

Two beautiful ANZAC Day arrivals yesterday.

While the day was one of reflection, remembrance and gratitude for the courage and sacrifice of those who served our country, it also became a day of joy for two families welcoming their babies into the world.

A special day of commemoration — and now two very special birthdays that will always carry extra meaning.

Lest we forget. 🌺
