A stroke can change someone’s health, independence and daily routine in an instant. The care that follows often involves much more than medication alone.

This National Stroke Week, we are highlighting the importance of coordinated, ongoing support for people living with the long-term effects of stroke.

At GPs on Curzon, our doctors and nurses can support patients through an individualised GP Chronic Condition Management Plan, helping to organise care around their specific needs.

This may include:
• reviewing medications and ongoing symptoms
• coordinating allied health services
• supporting mobility, strength and daily function
• monitoring related risks such as blood pressure, diabetes and cardiovascular health
• keeping follow-up care clear and manageable

Living with a chronic condition can feel overwhelming, but you do not have to navigate it alone.

Recently, Lead RN Sharon Tankey, RN Simone Grant, and Dr Daina Waugh travelled to Vanuatu, where they delivered donated school supplies to local students on behalf of our team.

Thanks to the generosity of our staff and supporters, pens, pencils, exercise books, and other essential supplies have found their way into classrooms where they'll make a meaningful difference.

Education has the power to change lives, and we're grateful to play a small part in helping children access the resources they need to learn and grow.

💙 A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this initiative. Your kindness will have an impact far beyond our local community.

Diabetes affects more than blood sugar, it also has a significant impact on your heart health.

This National Diabetes Week, we're highlighting the importance of early detection and proactive care. People living with diabetes are at a higher risk of developing heart disease, making regular health checks more important than ever.

At GPs on Curzon, our Heart Health Assessments help identify your risk of heart attack or stroke before symptoms appear.

During your assessment, we'll look at factors such as:
🩺 Blood pressure
🩺 Cholesterol levels
🩺 Blood glucose
🩺 Lifestyle and family history

Alongside regular check-ups, healthy eating, staying active, and managing your diabetes can go a long way in protecting your heart.

💙 Looking after your heart is one of the best things you can do for your future health.

Many people are surprised to learn that bowel cancer is being diagnosed in younger Australians more frequently than ever before.

That's why the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program has expanded eligibility to include people aged 45-49.

If you're in this age group, you can now request a free at-home bowel screening kit without waiting until you're 50.

The test is:
✔ Free
✔ Quick to complete
✔ Done at home
✔ Designed to detect early signs of bowel cancer

You may feel perfectly healthy, but bowel cancer often develops without obvious symptoms in its early stages.

Taking a few minutes to complete a screening test could provide peace of mind - or identify an issue when it's most treatable.

💙 If you're aged 45-49, now is the time to take advantage of this important initiative - https://www.ncsr.gov.au/bowel-program/manage-your-participation-in-the-bowel-program/request-a-free-bowel-test-kit

Following on from National Heart Week, the next step is simple, understanding what you can actually do to protect your heart.

Heart health isn’t about one big change. It’s about consistent, everyday habits.

Start with:
🥗 A balanced diet with fewer processed foods
🚶 Moving more - even regular walks make a difference
🧂 Reducing salt, sugar, and alcohol intake
🚭 Quitting smoking (this alone can halve your risk)
🩺 Staying on top of your blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight

💬 The most effective plan is one that’s tailored to you, and that starts with a conversation.

At GPs on Curzon, we don’t just assess your risk; we help you understand it and manage it long-term.

📅 If you haven’t booked your heart health check yet, now’s the time.

You don’t have to feel unwell to be at risk of heart disease.

This National Heart Week, GPs on Curzon is encouraging our Toowoomba community to take a proactive approach, because many heart conditions develop quietly over time.

A Heart Health Check is a simple 20-minute assessment that helps identify your risk of heart attack or stroke before symptoms appear.

🩺 During your check, we assess:
• Blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose
• Lifestyle and family history
• Overall cardiovascular risk

💡 If you’re aged 45 or over, an annual heart health check is recommended.

At GPs on Curzon, our experienced team is here to provide personalised care and practical steps to help reduce your risk.

📅 Early awareness can make all the difference. Book an appointment with us.

Most Australians know the importance of sun protection, but fewer realise that skin cancer risk isn’t the same for everyone.

Your daily lifestyle plays a bigger role than you might think.

☀️ Time in the sun adds up - even through everyday activities like driving, walking, or gardening
🧴 SPF matters - but only when applied properly and reapplied regularly
👶 Past sunburns, especially in childhood, can increase long-term risk
🧬 Your skin type and number of moles also influence how your skin responds over time

At GPs on Curzon, we help patients understand their individual risk and what that means for their skin moving forward.

💡 The goal isn’t to avoid the sun completely; it’s to be aware, consistent, and proactive.

📅 If it’s been a while since your last skin check, now is a good time to book - https://gpsoncurzon.com.au/appointments/

Around 250,000 Australians live with epilepsy, yet misconceptions about the condition are still widespread.

This Purple Day, GPs on Curzon is helping raise awareness and understanding.

Epilepsy is a neurological condition that causes recurring seizures, which can vary greatly from person to person.

Some seizures are obvious. Others can be brief moments of confusion, staring spells, or sudden changes in awareness.

With the right medical care and support, many people with epilepsy are able to live full and active lives.

If you or a loved one has experienced unexplained seizures, fainting episodes, or unusual neurological symptoms, speaking with your GP is an important first step.

💜 Awareness leads to understanding. Understanding leads to better support.
