Whatโ€™s keratoconus? Our corneal surgeon, Dr Season Yeung, explains about this important eye condition where the cornea becomes progressively irregular and conical in shape. This can be subtle in early stages, with increasing astigmatism in glasses prescription power and itโ€™s particularly important to detect pre-clinical keratoconus in patients before they consider corneal laser vision correction.

At Eastwood Eye Specialists, we have advanced corneal diagnostics, including corneal tomography, corneal OCT, and specular microscopy. Our cataract surgeon, John H Chang explains that these are essential for comprehensive corneal assessment which is also an integral part of planning for modern cataract surgery, especially with premium intraocular lens implants.

As a corneal subspecialist, Dr Season Yeung provides comprehensive treatment options for keratoconus, including corneal cross-linking and corneal transplantation surgery.

New Corneal Imaging Technology now available at Eastwood Eye Specialists โœจ

We're excited to announce that we have a new addition to our advanced diagnostic technology at our eye clinic: The Corneal Specular Microscopy. ๐Ÿ”ฌ

It is a non-invasive imaging tool that photographs, counts and analyses the health of the inner-most layer of the cornea (endothelium). These cells perform a vital pump function to maintain healthy corneal optical clarity.

Specular microscopy is important in the management of conditions such as:
- cataract surgery
- refractive eye surgery (ICL implantable collamer lens)
- corneal conditions such as Fuch's endothelial dystrophy

Our cataract surgeons and specialidts utilise a number of latest imaging tools like the Pentacam (corneal topography) and corneal OCT scans, in addition to specular microscopy, to ensure our patients receive the very best treatment and advice!

All enquiries can be made through our clinic, thank you for your ongoing support snd we look forward to continuing eye care for our community.

It's JulEYE! ๐Ÿ‘€
July is Australia's National Eye Health Awareness Month.
This is a good reminder that yur eyes deserve the same attention as the rest of your health.
Easy to miss:
โญ๏ธ Conditions like glaucoma and diabetic eye disease often show no symptoms alone which is why it's called the "silent thief of sight" for a reason ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Good news โœ”๏ธ: Up to 95% of severe vision loss from this can be prevented with early detection. A comprehensive eye exam 1-2yrs is essential for your long-term health.

Make that appointment asap!

Scrolling, Reading, Working - your eyes rarely get a break these days ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ด
If you're staring at a screen for hours, try the 20-6-20 rule!
Every 20 minutes ๐Ÿ•• look at something 6 metres away ๐Ÿ‘€ for 20 seconds! ๐Ÿ•

โญ๏ธThis gives your eye muscles a chance to relax and can meaningfully cut down on digital eye strain, headaches, and blurry vision by the end of the day.

Small habits can make big differences.
Noticing more strain, dryness or headaches lately? Make sure you get a checkup and book your eye exam! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Lifestyle and dietary advice for macular health from our retina specialist, Dr Ju-Lee Ooi, consultant ophthalmologist at Eastwood Eye Specialists & Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney.

There are multiple risk factors for macular degeneration (AMD), some of which are not modifiable but others can be modified by change in lifestyle. These include a healthy diet rich in proven vitamins and antioxidants for macular health, such as green leafy vegetables, oily fish (eg. salmon) and nuts. Reduce and stop smoking.

Our doctors at Eastwood Eye Specialist recently attended the Asia Pacific Global Retinal Network conference hosted in Sydney. Such activities embody our clinicโ€™s commitment to CPD education and the contribution to research and clinical leadership.

Eastwood Eye Specialists, led by our principal ophthalmologist, Dr John Chang, were part of the multi-centre study whose results were presented at this APAC meeting, demonstrating the benefit of Aflibercept 8mg HD eye injections for management of difficult to treat wet macular degeneration (AMD).

We were also one of the first eye clinics in Australia to use AI guided retinal OCT image assessment. Dr John Chang was an invited expert faculty at this conference and presented his experience using AI at Eastwood Eye Specialists. We use the latest AI technology to more efficiently and accurately analyze retinal OCT scans, which ultimately lead to better patient care.

Your eyes act as a window into your overall health. As our ophthalmologist, Dr John Chang explains, the eye is the only organ where we can directly observe living blood vessels and nerves non-invasively. A comprehensive eye examination with your optometrist or ophthalmologist can reveal early signs of systemic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, neurological conditions, autoimmune conditions such as lupus, as well as side effects from certain medications.
