💜This Wear It Purple Day, NSLHD staff came together in a visible show of support for diversity, inclusion and the wellbeing of LGBTIQ+ young people. Guided by this year’s theme, Colours of Courage, we celebrated the everyday courage it takes to live authentically, support one another and help create communities where everyone can thrive.

Across our district, teams proudly wore purple, contributed to collaborative artworks and joined a special webinar exploring the experiences of LGBTIQ+ young people accessing healthcare. These moments of connection and reflection reinforce our commitment to fostering a health service where every person feels safe, respected and valued.

At NSLHD, we want all young people, staff, patients and communities to know: you are welcome here, you belong here, and your identity is respected and celebrated.

The Ryde Hospital Redevelopment is taking shape, bringing us closer to a modern, state-of-the-art facility for our patients, staff and community.

The scale of the project is impressive: ✅ More than 100,000 tonnes of material excavated ✅ 21,000 cubic metres of concrete to be poured, enough to fill 8.5 Olympic swimming pools ✅ 2,500 tonnes of Australian-made steel reinforcement, with 90% sourced from recycled materials ✅ 250 kilometres of electrical cabling to power the new hospital.

Sustainability remains at the heart of the redevelopment. The project is powered by 100% accredited renewable electricity, uses fully electric tower cranes, and has already delivered significant carbon savings through innovative battery technology and lower-emission building materials.

We're also investing in the local environment, with 75,000 native seedlings already planted as part of the regeneration of the nearby Blue Gum High Forest, and another 62,000 to come.

When complete, the new Ryde Hospital will be a fully electric facility, helping reduce emissions while delivering world-class healthcare for future generations.

Every milestone brings us one step closer to a hospital designed for the future. 🌱

Ryde Hospital staff and colleagues came together to celebrate NAIDOC Weekat a special event recognising this year's theme, "50 Years of Deadly", to honour the voices, cultures, achievements and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The event began with a traditional Smoking Ceremony, followed by a vibrant Aboriginal song and dance performance that highlighted the richness of the world's oldest continuing culture.

Staff also had the opportunity to learn a song and some Aboriginal words, providing a meaningful and interactive way to connect with culture and deepen their understanding.

The celebration also reflected on the significance of NAIDOC Week and the important role health services play in working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve health outcomes and address ongoing health inequities. It was a valuable opportunity to celebrate culture, strengthen understanding and reaffirm our commitment to providing culturally safe, respectful and inclusive care for all. 🖤💛❤️

The Ryde Hospital Redevelopment team, in partnership with the NSW Department of Education’s Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP), recently hosted the Girls Who Build Trade Taster Program - an initiative led by A W Edwards Construction.

This week-long immersive experience welcomed 15 Year 10 and 11 female students, giving them a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in a live construction site and explore the many career pathways within the industry.

Throughout the program, students gained hands-on experience across a range of trades, built confidence using power tools, and connected with project teams, subcontractors and industry professionals. A standout achievement - every participant successfully obtained their construction induction qualification. 👏

Supported by Health Infrastructure and NSW Women in Construction, the program is part of a broader commitment to increasing female participation in the sector.

More than just skills development, it’s about empowering young women, championing diversity, creating genuine career pathways and greater equity in career opportunities for the next generation.

🌟TEAMS PREPARE CLINICAL TECHNOLOGY FOR SDPR 🌟

As the NSW Health Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR) rollout approaches, teams from the SDPR Implementation Authority, Biomedical Engineering and Digital Health Services are carrying out technical readiness activities across NSLHD facilities.

Over the coming weeks, staff across wards, clinics and patient care areas may see team members wearing blue SDPR vests conducting audits of clinical technology and supporting network infrastructure.

The audits involve reviewing equipment such as patient monitors, ECG machines and cardiotocography devices, documenting serial numbers, checking network connectivity, and assessing wall ports and related infrastructure. This work will help identify opportunities to integrate clinical devices with the future SDPR system and support more connected, efficient information sharing.

Shiromee Gasperson, Change Manager in the Clinical Engagement team, Digital Health Services, said the audits are a key step in preparing for future SDPR workflows:

“This work will help the SDPR Implementation Authority better understand our clinical technology environment and support more connected care when the SDPR goes live in NSLHD later this year.”

Northern Sydney Local Health District is delivering refreshed Respecting the Difference training – our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural training program that strengthens our commitment to culturally safe, inclusive, and respectful workplaces.

Led by Rikka Lamb, Cultural Capabilities Lead, alongside a dedicated team of facilitators, this program is now delivered in-house, creating a more consistent experience and stronger connections with our local teams and services. It supports our people to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural safety, respect, and inclusion across our diverse workforce.

A key feature of the refresh is the opportunity for participants to shape the program, with ongoing feedback helping to continuously evolve the training to better reflect real experiences and community needs.
