Did you know that lipedema is estimated to affect around 1 in 9 women, yet many remain undiagnosed or are told it's simply weight gain?
Lipedema is a chronic condition that causes an abnormal accumulation of fat, most commonly in the legs and sometimes the arms. It can be painful, cause easy bruising, heaviness and swelling, and is often resistant to diet and exercise.
Awareness is the first step toward understanding, earlier diagnosis, and better support for those living with this often misunderstood condition.

1 in 9 Australian women may be living with lipoedema and have no idea it exists.

Lipoedema is a chronic condition that causes an abnormal build-up of fat, typically in the hips, thighs, legs, and sometimes arms. It’s often painful, can feel heavy or tender, and it doesn’t respond to diet and exercise in the same way typical fat does. It’s also commonly influenced by hormonal changes like puberty, pregnancy, and menopause.

Yet most women spend years being told to “try harder” before they ever receive a name for what they’re experiencing.
