Taper madness is real, and the Shire's deep in it right now.

With the Sydney Marathon only a couple of weeks out, a lot of local runners have hit the strangest part of the whole build: doing less. The k's come down just as the nerves ramp up, and suddenly every quiet week feels wrong.

If you're staring at a training plan that says "easy 5km" and wanting to add three more, you're not alone. That itch is completely normal. Trust the plan. The hard work is already banked.

To everyone easing off after months of early alarms and long Sunday runs, well done. The discipline to do less right now is just as hard as the discipline that got you here.

Have a great weekend out there, Shire.

Peak training weeks are when runners break down. More k's, more fatigue, and the little weak spots start to show.

Strength training is one of the best-evidenced ways to hold yourself together through it. Stronger runners simply break down less often.

Parkstride is our run strengthening class built for exactly this. Small groups, real coaching, and strength work that carries straight over to your running.

Whether you are deep in marathon training or you just want to run through spring without the ni**les, we'll meet you where you are at.

Spots are limited each week. Give us a call on 9548 3372 to book your spot

Big training weekends going on across the Shire right now. ๐Ÿ‘

With the Sydney Marathon a few weeks out, plenty of locals are deep in the part nobody posts about. The long Sunday runs, the early alarms, the cold starts when the rest of the house is still asleep.

It is not glamorous. It is pre-dawn k's, sore legs on Monday, and turning down the sleep-in to get it done. But that quiet winter work is exactly what gets you to a start line ready.

To everyone grinding through the big weekends, whether you are chasing the marathon, the half, or just your own goal, keep at it.

Have a cracker out there, Shire. We love seeing you out and moving.

Race week dos's and dont's. After months of work, the hardest part for a lot of runners is doing less, right when the nerves are telling them to do more.

With the Sydney Marathon and the spring races on the horizon, the Shire is full of people quietly counting down the days and wondering if they have done enough. Here's the reassuring part. By race week, the fitness is already in the bank. The last few days are about arriving fresh enough to use it.

So keep your runs short and easy. Protect your sleep where you can. And whatever you do, don't try anything new on the big day. Not new shoes, not a new breakfast, not a bold new pace plan. Race day is for trusting what you have already practised.

There is one thing worth acting on, though. If you have a ni**le you have been watching, race week is the time to get a clear, honest answer on whether it is safe to run on, rather than leaving it to hope on the start line.

Two weeks out from your race and feeling like you should be training harder? Here's why easing off might be the smartest thing you do.

With City2Surf and the Sydney Marathon coming up, a lot of runners get nervous in the final fortnight and cram in extra k's. It feels productive. It usually isn't.

Here's what the evidence shows. You can't add fitness in the last two weeks, but you can absolutely arrive tired if you try. Tapering, which means gradually reducing your training load before race day, lets your body absorb all the work you have already done so you turn up fresh.

A taper doesn't mean stopping. It means keeping some intensity while you trim the volume, so your legs stay sharp without the fatigue.

Got a ni**le you're hoping clears by race day? Don't leave it to hope. Book online via the link below and let's check it before the start line.

You can't cram fitness into the last two weeks before a race.

With City2Surf and the Sydney Marathon on the horizon, this is the point where a lot of Shire runners get nervous and start piling on extra training. Every easy week feels like a wasted one. So they push harder, right when they should be doing the opposite.

Here's what the evidence actually shows. The fitness you'll race on is already in the bank. The final couple of weeks aren't about adding more, they're about arriving fresh enough to use what you've got. That's what a taper does. You gradually trim how much you're running while keeping a bit of intensity, so your legs stay sharp but the fatigue washes out.

Tapering doesn't mean stopping and sitting on the couch. It means smarter, lighter running in the lead-up, so you line up rested rather than run down.

And that ni**le you're quietly hoping sorts itself out before race day? That's the one thing worth acting on now, not leaving to chance.
