Another of the 5 Niyamas (guidelines in Yoga) is Svadhyaya or self-study.
Sva, meaning own, self, or the human soul and Adhyaya, meaning lesson or reading.
The practice of Yoga helps us to look inside ourselves, beyond the ego or 'want' mind, beyond the daily habits and thoughts.
It’s not about blocking our thoughts or trying to push them away but learning to notice and acknowledge them, becoming more self-aware.

Santosha is one of the 5 Niyamas (guidelines in Yoga) meaning contentment, accepting, being satisfied with.

With the abundance of images of yoga postures online, the fancy outfits and impossibly bendy bodies, it can be hard not to compare oneself and to be self-critical or feel lesser.
However, the real practice of yoga is not about achieving this seemingly perfect posture or 'look' but to find our real self and be accepting with where we are at.
Feeling wobbly in a pose is not a 'mistake' but something to notice - are you more or less wobbly than last time? can you make a change to be less wobbly?

Like the full moon that shines without asking for recognition, a true teacher quietly illuminates the path for others. This Guru Purnima, we pause in gratitude for Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar as we celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Light on Yoga we give thanks to the lineage of teachers whose wisdom continues to guide our practice.

Looking at Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend)

‘Paschima’ means west, ‘ut’ means intense and ‘an’ refers to the acquisition of a particular shape.

The full meaning of the name therefore refers to the folding in of the sun on the western horizon. The name suggests that one must fold at the region of the navel in such a way that its energy is pulled towards the bladder and the re**um.
