The YFD Winter Newsletter is here! ❄️🧤🧣😊

In this edition we share important information about this year’s influenza season, including the new FluMist nasal spray vaccine for children, as well as updates on government funded RSV vaccination for those over 75.

We also introduce some convenient new routine request options available through HotDoc, reflect on valuable learning from the recent Women’s and Children’s Health Update Conference attended by our team, farewell our wonderful receptionist Cathy and warmly welcome Nikki to YFD. Finally, we congratulate Dr Michael and his family on the arrival of their beautiful baby girl and welcome him back from paternity leave. 😊

Some of our doctors were missing in action at YFD last Friday and over the long weekend, attending the medicallearningjourneys conference on beautiful Hamilton Island 🏝️🤩.

Despite the breathtaking views, they managed to soak up plenty of knowledge from experts on hot topics including ADHD, menopause, vulval disorders, infectious diseases, hypermobility, POTS, MCAS, dermatology, antenatal care, allergy and drug & alcohol medicine. There was also a focus on doctor wellbeing with a bit of sunrise yoga on the side! 🌅🧘‍♀️

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine 💉

🦠RSV can cause serious respiratory illness in older people and lead to hospitalisation.
Vaccination is a safe and effective way to protect against this virus.

⭐️From 15 May 2026, the RSV vaccine is free under the National Immunisation Program for people aged 75 years and over, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 60 years and over.

⭐️If you are 60 to 74 years or are aged 50 and over with a medical condition that increases your risk of severe RSV disease, you can consider RSV vaccination at a private fee.

⭐️Now is the time to get your vaccination to protect you in the cooler months, when most RSV cases occur. 🦠💉

Have you had your flu shot yet? 💉Be like Dr Sam and book in for yours! 🙌

We have had added an extra Saturday afternoon flu vaccine clinic this Saturday 16th June for our existing patients.

Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for those at risk of severe illness from the flu. Those eligible for free influenza vaccines under the National Immunisation program includes:
* Children from 6 months to under 5 years
* Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from 6 months
* Pregnant women
* People aged 65 years and over
* People with serious health conditions (including severe asthma, diabetes, cancer, immune disorders, obesity, kidney, heart, lung or liver disease)
Those not eligible for a government flu vaccine can receive a private flu vaccine at Your Family Doctors for $20.

In 2026, the nasal spray flu vaccine (FluMist®) will be available for the first time in Australia for children aged between 2 – 17 years. In NSW, FluMist® is fully funded for 2 – 4 year olds and available privately for those aged 5 – 17 for $50.

The Annual Women’s and Children’s update in Sydney yesterday didn’t disappoint 🤓. Our YFD doctors were updated with a vast range of topics from contraception to menopause, dry eyes to fatty liver, the dangers of AI chat bots with adolescents, the importance of vaccination during pregnancy, acne and the assessment and management of heavy menstrual bleeding. It was a long and informative day and our doctors walked out with some great
evidence based tools from experts in the field to implement with their patients. 🙌😃

In this edition, Dr Georgia shares a practical pregnancy checklist to guide you after a positive pregnancy test.🤰

A good start is to see your GP for your first pregnancy visit around the 4 – 8 week mark. Your GP can confirm your pregnancy and dates, assess your health and organise routine antenatal tests recommended for your pregnancy. They will also give you information regarding where you can receive your ongoing pregnancy care and where you can deliver your baby.

The YFD Autumn Newsletter is here! 🍁🐣
With the seasonal shift comes the usual rise in coughs, colds and viral illnesses, so it’s a timely reminder to start thinking ahead to winter and how best to protect yourself and your family. 😷 🤧
In April, we will once again be running dedicated flu clinics to make it easy for everyone to stay up to date. 💉Immunisation rates were down last year and unfortunately there were two influenza virus spikes in 2025. We’ll also continue offering COVID-19 booster clinics with Pfizer vaccines as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our community protected.

In this edition, you’ll find key updates on this year’s influenza vaccines and broader immunisation recommendations, information about ADHD co-prescribing arrangements, and a reminder that we offer Iron infusions and Aclasta infusions right here at Your Family Doctors for your convenience.

For a short period of time some of our doctors have open books and that time has come again where we need to increase our practice fees to continue to provide quality healthcare. 😊
