💫 Today is World Eating Disorders Action Day.

Creating meaningful change for people affected by eating disorders requires collective action. Across Australia, clinicians, researchers, educators, policymakers, service providers, carers and people with lived and living experience are working together to build an accessible and equitable system of care for all Australians experiencing eating disorders, their families, supports and communities.

World Eating Disorders Action Day is an opportunity to recognise this shared commitment, celebrate progress, and continue advocating for the systems, services and supports that make a difference.

While today shines a spotlight on this work, real progress happens every day. At NEDC, we are proud to work alongside the sector to advance the implementation of the National Eating Disorders Strategy 2023–2033 and help create a future where everyone affected by an eating disorder can access the care and support they need, when they need it.

Self-criticism can often be mistaken for accountability or growth.
But harsh inner dialogue rarely creates lasting change — it usually creates shame, avoidance, overwhelm or feeling stuck.

Self-awareness sounds different.
It creates space for curiosity, reflection, and growth 💚

Instead of:
“I’m failing.”

Try:
“I’m having difficulty with this right now.”
“I’m still learning.”
“I’m not there yet.”

⭐️ The way we speak to ourselves matters ⭐️

Growth happens more sustainably through empathy, compassion, and kindness — not punishment.

Today is the International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination! 🌈

Why May 17? It was on this day in 1990 that homosexuality was removed from the WHO Classification of Diseases - a historic step towards inclusion. Three decades later, despite how far we’ve come, the LGBTQIA+ community unfortunately still faces discrimination.

Days like today offer all of us the opportunity to visibly stand against discrimination. LGBTQIA+ community and allies alike, today we take action to make the world more inclusive.

This year, we couldn’t be prouder of the massive wave of allyship, pride, and visibility we’ve seen across workplaces, schools, and communities.

To every single person who’s gone rainbow: you have sent SUCH a vital message of hope, support, and safety to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Whether you wore a rainbow ribbon, started a conversation, hosted a fundraiser, shared IDAHOBIT online, or hung up a poster, thank you. Each action contributes to building a more inclusive future.

Thank you for showing up proudly with us!

When disaster strikes, communities rally.

But what happens when the noise quietens down?

When the media leave.
When support slows.
When people are left carrying exhaustion, grief and uncertainty behind closed doors.

That is often when isolation begins.

I’ve written a new blog about the hidden emotional toll of disaster recovery and why connection, communication and human support matter more than ever in rural and regional communities.

Because recovery is not just about rebuilding infrastructure.

It is about rebuilding people.

If this conversation matters to you, I’d love you to take a few minutes to read and share.

$28,391 raised by the 11 humans who participated in this hike 🥰 amazing!!

These funds directly help support individuals who don’t meet criteria for specific programs, but are still so worthy of care, advocacy, connection, and person-centred support. That gap in support is very real, and this fundraising helps ensure people are not simply overlooked because they don’t fit neatly into a system. Something that is at the heart of EDV.

Here are the final 10 reasons why this fundraiser matters so much to me 💚

A very genuine thank you to every person who supported this fundraiser — whether you donated, shared posts, checked in, encouraged conversations, or helped raise awareness along the way. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, played a part in reaching this outcome and supporting work that is incredibly important.

Very proud to have been part of something that will create tangible impact for people and families navigating eating disorders and recovery 💚

We did it — 40km through Tasmania’s Bay of Fires, alongside an incredible group of humans all walking for something far bigger than ourselves.

What made this experience so special wasn’t just the hike itself, but the people within it. Across those kilometres there were shared stories, laughter, honesty, reflection, and connection. Many people on this journey carried some form of lived experience, or work closely within the space supporting others through recovery.

It was a reminder of how many lives are touched by these eating disorders — often quietly, and far more deeply than people realise.

This walk was to raise funds for Eating Disorders Victoria (EDV), an organisation doing vital work through support, advocacy, education, and pathways to care for individuals and families impacted by eating disorders and body image distress.

Every conversation across those trails reinforced the same thing:
⭐️ Recovery matters.
👭 Access to support matters.
💚 Community matters.
🧠 And nobody should have to navigate an eating disorder alone.

To everyone who donated, shared, supported, or checked in along the way — thank you. Your support genuinely contributes to real-world impact through EDV’s work.

The hike may be over, but the purpose behind every step continues.

And for anyone still wanting to contribute — the fundraising link will remain open over the weekend 🤍

A confronting report has revealed that young Australians are still accessing harmful pro-eating disorder communities online, including spaces where teens are seeking “coaches” who encourage disordered behaviours.

EDFA's Executive Director, Jane Rowan, alongside her daughter Charley, has spoken out about how easily this content is reaching young people.

This is a stark reminder of how much more needs to be done.
