Magnesium✨

Hands down my most favourite mineral!! And the one that changes the lives of my clients the most.

Now the uses of magnesium are too long to list here, but my three favourite ways to use this incredible mineral are…

FOR SLEEP. Magnesium relaxes both the muscular system and the mind. It is my personal go-to for a restful sleep, and is particularly beneficial if you get cramps or restless legs in bed!

FOR STRESS. The stress hormone cortisol depletes our magnesium stores. And magnesium is essential for brain function, particularly when it comes to lessening anxiety and supporting our neurotransmitters. Like for sleep, magnesium calms our nervous system and our brain benefits immensely.

FOR PAIN. Magnesium is incredible for relieving headaches, muscular pains (including muscle recovery when training) and pain associated with menstruation.

As with so many vitamins, minerals and nutrients, the form of magnesium is vital so it can do its job in the most effective way possible.

My favourite forms (especially for the above uses!) are magnesium glycinate/bisglycinate, amino acid chelate and threonate.

As always, it’s super important to speak with your health practitioner about the correct dosage (and timing) for the use of any therapeutic nutrient.
Come and see me at .houseofhealth (in-person or via telehealth) and we can figure out what will work best for you 😌

I often don’t see it coming.
I feel good.
I’m ticking all my life boxes.
So I say yes to more things.
Because my capacity feels strong, and my heart open.
I’m feeling good and I want MORE of my life and in my life.
And the universe delivers — often giving me more in every area, all at once.
That ‘more’ has to take up space somewhere, and it’s often my meditation practice, or self care activities, or gym sessions or nature walks that are replaced.
Often subtly, just here and there, until one day I can’t remember if it was last week or the week before that I picked up a dumbbell at the gym. If I had even read a page of my book in the last few days. Or who actually was the last friend I saw, and when…?
But as soon as this awareness arrives, I know what to do.
I know I need to cut back.
To support my adrenals.
To not hit snooze, and take back my mornings.
To spend time soaking in the sun, and staring at the moon.
To move my body. Nourish my mind.
Check in with myself.
Re-evaluate the season I’m in and whether my to do list and commitments are concurrent with where I’m at personally.
This cycle happens to me a lot.
I know burnout intimately — both clinically and circumstantially.
It’s an area I play in often. But these days can pull myself out of very quickly.
I want that for you.
For you to know when — and how — to stop the cogs moving towards burnout and instead reverse themselves in the other direction.
Let’s get curious about changing this cycle together, come see me in clinic 🤍

So, what does a naturopath actually do?

Instead of sticking a bandaid on your symptoms and hoping for the best, we dig deeper and review your whole health picture to find out the root cause of WHY something is happening.

We look at stress and energy levels, toxic load and inflammation, hormones, sleep and circadian rhythm, how you move, how you eat and how you live.

From there, we not only help with improving the symptoms you’re experiencing but also actively work on the root cause. Root causes could be things like hormonal imbalances, compromised gut health, food intolerances, diet, stress, or vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

I’d love to see you here at Salud, and have you feeling empowered about your health journey again 🤍

Three things you can do for…skin health.

At the crux of it, skin is a reflection of what is going on inside our body, and is often the eliminatory organ for toxins (along with poo and sweat!). So with saying that,

1. Stick to a wholefood and anti-inflammatory diet. So reduce/eliminate processed and inflammatory-inducing foods and beverages like gluten, dairy, sugar and alcohol.

2. Strengthen your skin elasticity and quality with a high quality collagen supplement (my favourite is the flavourless Collagen Beauty).

3. Consume adequate amounts of zinc (and/or supplement with a therapeutic amount and the correct type).

Three things you can do for…a healthy stress response.

Acute stress can be healthy (short bursts to keep us alive), chronic stress is where it can wreak havoc on almost every system in your body. The best thing is eliminating or reducing our source of stress, but if we’re unable to do that, then:

1. Breathe. In a stressful moment, consciously slowing down your breathing and aiming for 6-8 breaths per minute can be helpful, with the exhale being longer than the inhale. In general though, stay conscious of how fast you are breathing and aim for deeper (not shallow) breaths through the nose.

2. Move the stress out of your head and through your body. Walk, dance, hit the weights, shake and release (if you don’t know what this is, google it. It is amazing for stress and I particularly do it when I’m experiencing anger). Any kind of movement is beneficial*, but being out in nature is a double bonus.

*If you’re experiencing chronic stress, then high impact/high intensity movement like HIIT trainings, bootcamps, etc may cause additional stress on your body.

3. Mindfulness and meditation. Seek to become mindful of your surroundings, of the textures and the feel and the sensations in your body. Practice yin yoga. Quieten your mind and engage in meditation. Get out in nature and just look around 🌳🪶

Three things you can do for…brain health.

To kick off the Three Things series, I am zoning in on brain health (my favourite topic right now). Admittedly I struggled to keep this to three things, but here we go:

1. Work on your gut health, ESPECIALLY if you have gut permeability (leaky gut). There are so many molecules that can sneakily get into our bloodstream, cross the blood brain barrier and wreak havoc (think neuroinflammation, anxiety, depression — just to name a few).

2. Include polyphenols (molecules that give food its bright colour is one type of polyphenol) in your diet. Think of all your brightly coloured veggies and fruit, and make sure you’re eating a rainbow diet.

3. Rinse your brain for 8 hours a day…by sleeping well! Sleep helps the glymphatic system to flush itself out, thereby literally ‘rinsing’ and cleaning the brain and nervous system of any waste and toxins. Cool, huh?!

Magic happens when we create space for ourselves.

To come together.

To learn.

To remember.

To surrender.

To be.

Lucy & I have co-created an incredible day retreat — one that WE wanted.

A blend of learning, remembering, coming together and integrating.

In a stunning location, held at a beautifully reflective (and cosy!) time of year…

This retreat is designed for anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of themselves, and learn practical tools to manage energy effectively and create a more fulfilling life.

It is for those who give out so much, rarely take time out for themselves and desire to enjoy a day where they get to receive in ways they may not have ever experienced!

We will be exploring themes such as living cyclicly and working with the natural rhythms of the universe, clarifying your vision for your life and how you desire to show up, alignment and discernment, plus a few bio-hacks for your energy management and nervous system.

And we’ll be bringing it all together to support your growth and vitality through a blend of practical exercises, reflective practices, and somatic techniques.

You will come away from this retreat with a deeper understanding of yourself and the tools to put your insights into action.

Tickets are on sale now - link in bio ✨

It sounds straightforward, but I’ve lost count of the amount of clients who allocate their work hours to practitioner mode only, and the manager and entrepreneur modes get squished in on an ad-hoc basis.

But just like the human body, different organs of the business need to be centre stage at different times.

Sometimes it’s the heart — the vision, the life force.

Sometimes it’s the brain — where files are found and instructions are laid and operations are planned.

And sometimes, usually majority of the time if you’re a solopreneur, the gut is leading. The part where your work is alchemised, your clients are responding to your process — your way of creating change in them.

My question to you is; have you allowed space for all three personas in your schedule?
