Kids in the Hills Speech Pathology

Kids in the Hills Speech Pathology Local speech pathology clinic supporting children 2-8years. Areas of support include speech, language, literacy, hearing impairment, and late talkers.
Clinical supervision and training is also available for speech pathologists.

Paediatric speech pathology services provided by Marion Langdon for children 0-8years. Marion has 20 years experience, with a specific interest in working with Speech Sound Disorders, as well as language and literacy difficulties. Marion aims to work with parents and their child to identify each child's strengths and weaknesses, then provided individualised play-based therapy sessions to help each

child develop new skills. Therapy also includes teaching parents different strategies to practice at home to continue helping their child learn new skills each day. This practice also provides clinical supervision and training to other speech pathologists. Marion particularly has experience and enjoys supporting new graduates, early career speech pathologists and speech pathologists setting up private practice. Support may be on a regular basis or a one off consult to talk through some more challenging cases or a particular clinical area.

Bluey helped us today in the clinic! We practised using lip rounding movements in words - push, wash, share, swim. Lots of repetition in filling up the bin then tipping the food into the garage truck!

These mini animals are great to help produce high word practices in our speech sessions. There's 20 pieces, which I mix in a bag. Then we pull them out one at a time as we say our target words and gradually build the individual puzzles.
Yesterday our was target 'g' - so every time we looked in the bag we used our 'fingers' and then talked about where the piece would 'go'. Then maybe would the animal prefer to eat 'yogurt' or a 'burger', or maybe play with 'lego' !

My childcare newsletter for August focuses on some simple strategies to help expand your child's vocabulary. This can include both the names of things (eg a tiger) as well as a child's knowledge about the thing (eg. it lives in the jungle or the zoo, it has stripes, claws and a long tail, it likes to hunt at night). Being able to describe things, is crucial for learning to tell stories and explain your thoughts in more detail. The research also shows that their are strong links to the size of a child's vocabulary when they start school, to how well they will do academically and with reading in the future.
