On Sunday, we held a private dance party as a way of soft-launching Base’s new space in Fitzroy. It was all only possible because of my supportive big brother .

We gathered, we danced, we celebrated and it was all far more incredible than I could have imagined. Our community showed up in a way that was so powerful, and so beautiful.

The event would not have happened without the gorgeous who is also the creative genius and impeccable man behind the photos you see here. Thank you Jesper♥️.

The team at Lupine backed the event at its heart, as they have done with everything on the Base front front its inception, and I cannot thank and enough.

We had a line up of world-class Melbourne-based DJ’s who ignited the dance-floor impeccably: , , Ed Kent, . None of us wanted any of them to finish. A big thanks to for providing the epic sound system.

Darcy was on sandwiches (best sandwiches going round) and Hannah .innerground provided us with the most delicious buttery raspberry cake. Thank you to my Nonna for making our cult-favourite crostoli. held down the bar in a way that was unfathomable (we would have been lost without him).

We were supported by the people behind my favourite non-alcoholic beverages .soda & .gold . Thank you guys for your support.

A big thank you to all of the incredible people in our community who came, supported and celebrated with us, and for all of the ideas you have shared about how you’d like to use the space. I hope Base can become a second home for you all in 2026 — a place that can support you in bringing your ideas and art-forms to the wider world.

With love and a whole lot of appreciation,
Carly x

When you feel out of flow ask yourself - what is needed here?

Stacking up our schedule, piling things on, taking on more work, and filling up every moment can leave us feeling tired, scattered, and depleted.

It's important to de-clutter our lives and factor in space to rest and digest, perhaps even to reflect on what's working in our lives and what's not, how we're feeling, and what we're experiencing on a deeper level.

Small moments of rest and reflection eventually add up to hours of self-care.

Taking care of my well-being is one of my top priorities. When I prioritise my physical and mental health, not only do I feel more at ease, open, and energised but I have more of a capacity to support the people around me.

When I'm spread too thin and self-care has gone out the window, my capacity to be with others in a way that's supportive is limited.

When we take care of ourselves, we're taking care of the world around us too.

When we feel stuck in heavy thought patterns, cycles of discomfort, or challenging emotions, it can be helpful to share what we are going through with someone who can give us their undivided attention.

Internalising the difficulties we are experiencing oftentimes makes the experience all the more challenging to cope with.

Sometimes simply being heard can be the ultimate remedy.

The more we get to know ourselves, the easier it becomes to move towards what we desire.

Developing the ability to firstly know what step you want to take - and to then actualise that step - is a muscle of the mind that needs to be exercised. This is what's called self-agency. It sounds simple but, moving towards what we really want, and even knowing what we really want, can be challenging.

Cultivating self-agency assists us to navigate our lives in the direction of positive outcomes.

As babies, we are held, swaddled, cuddled, rocked, and sung to, all in an effort to bring our little bodies into a state of balance. As babies, we are dependent on our primary caregivers to take care of us and to co-regulate us (to use the calmness of their bodies, to encourage our bodies to relax).

When you're in a situation where you are overwhelmed or you're finding it challenging to calm down, don't underestimate the power of a cuddle from someone you love and feel safe with.

Body-to-body connection is a powerful resource for well-being.
