HAPPY WORLD HAND HYGIENE DAY
In Australia it is estimated that there is 170,574 hospital associated infections in adults admitted to public hospitals annually. With 7583 resulting deaths.

Hand Hygiene is widely considered to be our best defence in stopping the spread of infection. Such a simple and effective measure we can all do.

This week the Easter Bunny came early to Western Private Hospital with an Easter Raffle for all the staff. All staff were automatically entered into the draw. Congratulations to all the winners of the 10 prizes and feel free to share them with your colleagues!!

This week, Western Private Hospital proudly supported a very important organisation Medical Pantry by donating 3 boxes of excess medical supplies. They rescue medical supplies and equipment from hospitals and deliver to disadvantaged communities.
A wonderful cause for disadvantaged communities but also a positive step for change to our environment with 15 tonnes of medical supplies being diverted from landfill.
Well done Medical Pantry for making such positive changes and making healthcare environmentally sustainable.

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

The IWD 2023 theme is Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender-equal future. The theme emphasises the importance of bold, transformative ideas, inclusive technologies, and accessible education in combating discrimination and marginalisation of women around the world.

On this International Women’s Day, we’d like to send out gratitude and appreciation to all women at Western Private Hospital and the rest of the world.

At Western Private Hospital we celebrated the amazing women who work here by providing a lovely afternoon tea for all staff to enjoy. Thank you to the wonderful catering staff for preparing this wonderful box of goodies for us all to share.

As Victoria enters into lockdown again to tackle the latest COVID Delta outbreak, we would like to reassure our patients that elective surgery will continue during this latest lockdown period.
We assure our patients that we will perform elective surgery in a COVID safe manner with the strictest of infection control and screening protocols.

• Pre surgery Covid testing has ceased. However If you have or develop symptoms, please contact WPH, you will be required to have a Covid test within 7 days of surgery and will need to self-isolate at home until admission

• Please advise WPH immediately, if you have returned from NSW within 14 days prior to surgery or have returned from New Zealand from the 14/01/21

• Please monitor Victoria Covid exposure sites regularly at https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/case-locations-and-outbreaks and please inform WPH immediately if you have visited any

• For all Pre admission enquiries, please contact the preadmission Nurse on 9319 3185

• Limit to 2 visitors per patient for up to one hour between the hours of 4-8pm (exceptions : compassionate grounds and under age patients )

• WPH will continue to enforce social distancing, hand hygiene, masks and temperature checking on arrival

Information for patients and visitors regarding COVID-19. Updated on the 25th November 2020
As per the latest advice from DHHS, pre surgery Covid- 19 testing has ceased
Patients will be screened prior to, and on the day of surgery.

Changes to hospital visitor directive
• Visiting hours will be between 4pm and 8pm daily.
• There are no limits on the purpose of the visit, the number of visitors or the length of the visit.
• People of all ages can visit the hospital.

WPH will continue to enforce social distancing, hand hygiene, masks and temperature checking on arrival.

The safety of our patients, staff and VMOs remains our highest priority.

This Antimicrobial Awareness Week we are joining with health organisations around the world to promote the appropriate and safe use of antibiotics. Antimicrobials are very precious and we are raising awareness of the problem of antibiotic resistance.

Everybody can be part of the solution - whenever antimicrobials must be used, they must be used with care.

The future of antimicrobials depends on all of us!

Antibiotic resistance happens when bacteria stop an antibiotic from working effectively – without effective antibiotics some procedures may not be possible and some infections could be impossible to treat.
