The conversations I'm hearing in primary school workshops are changing.
When I first started teaching nutrition, kids would ask things like:
"Is a banana healthy?"
"Why is broccoli green?"
Now I'm hearing words like:
Protein, Calories, Carbs, Cheat meals
"What I Eat In A Day"
"Clean eating"
And honestly... it fascinates me.
The problem isn't the words themselves.
Understanding nutrition can be a wonderful thing.
What interests me is how much information children are now exposed to at such a young age through social media, YouTube, sport, fitness culture, advertising, and the conversations happening around them.
As adults, we have a responsibility to help children make sense of all that information.
Not through fear.
Not through food rules.
But through curiosity, critical thinking, and helping them build confidence around food.
Because before children need to know about calories, macros, or protein goals...
They need to know that food is nourishment.
Food is connection.
Food is culture.
Food is meant to be enjoyed.
And unfortunately, so my adults are lost in the world of nutrition and wellness too!
I'd love to know... What's a nutrition buzzword or phrase you hear all the time now that wasn't around when you were growing up?
