A little update from Emma in Longreach, Queensland… 🌿
I’ve had to make an unexpected trip north to spend some time with my 90-year-old dad after he was involved in a car accident. It took me a few days to reach him, with my little dog Sage along for the journey and keeping me company every step of the way. 🐾 For now, I’m staying nearby at the aptly named Muddy Duck Campground, complete with some rather unusual-looking resident ducks! 🦆
Dad has lived in the Longreach region for more than 40 years, and the Barton family has a long and fascinating connection with this country. My grandfather was a Light Horseman and drew a parcel of land here following his service in the war. Dad even donated a wool press to the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame.
There’s another special family connection to the region too. My grandfather’s first cousin was Banjo Paterson, who wrote 'Waltzing Matilda' nearby.
Longreach also holds many personal memories for me. I began visiting Dad here as a teenager, and when I was 21, I spent a year jillarooing on his property because I wanted to truly get to know him. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. Our relationship has continued to deepen over the years, and I still have dear friends here from that time.
Of course, I couldn’t travel all this way without bringing a little Musubi Do care with me. I gave Dad a Shiatsu treatment, and he says he is already feeling straighter and less stiff. At 90, that is a pretty wonderful result. 💚
Longreach is a warm and friendly community with a beautifully unhurried pace. For now, this is where I need to be.
To my clients and friends around Forster and the Great Lakes, thank you for your patience and understanding while I’m away. I’ll keep you updated and let you know when I’m returning and appointments resume.
Sometimes, caring for family means travelling a long way from home. I’m very grateful that my Shiatsu skills can bring Dad some comfort while I’m here. 🌿
