Can you feel your multifidus working?
This relatively small but mighty muscle runs deep along your spine — and most people have never been taught how to switch it on.
Here’s how to find it:
👉 Place your fingers a few centimetres away from centre of your lower spine, just below the top of your pelvis
👉 Gently slump forward, then slowly straighten up
👉 You should feel that muscle switch on under your fingers as you extend
The multifidus plays a key role in spinal stability and is one of the first muscles to lose activation after a back injury or episode of pain.
Learning to feel it — and load it — is a great place to start your recovery. 💪
Save this if you’ve been dealing with low back pain and want to get started.
