From cancer Good Things Grow The story of one man's inspiring journey from 'incurable' Non Hodgkin's lymphoma to cure. In mid 1999 I was living a busy and successful life.

All that changed in an instant when I was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage IV Non Hodgkins lymphoma. It was the worst news possible. The prognosis was not good. I was expected to respond to chemotherapy, but invariably would relapse until my cancer became resistant to treatment or transformed to a more aggressive cancer. My cancer was incurable and eventually I would succumb to the disease. After

chemotherapy I had a good response, but as predicted the cancer quickly returned. By early 2006 the cancer had returned for the FOURTH time and the future was looking bleak. My haematologist had then planned a stem cell transplant. However I declined his advice and told him I would be trying vaccine therapy.... using a personalised vaccine manufactured from my own cancer and some unique dendritic cells extracted from my blood. I started this treatment in 2006. I have had 52 injections, travelling half way to the moon in the process! It is the only treatment I have had since that time. There are no side-effects. I am now 10 years disease free. My haematologist has confirmed the vaccine has been a complete success, and my cancer is effectively cured. I feel I have a duty to tell others of my success, and inspire them to never give up hope. And not to ponder on the doctors' prognosis, and if your current treatment is not working or unlikely to be effective, then explore what other medical options are available. I am particularly keen on promoting vaccine therapies for cancer treatment, because it is harnessing your own bodies immune system to recognise and destroy the cancer, without side-effects. I firmly believe it is a treatment of the future and will, one day, be used for the treatment of all cancers. Yes one day be used to treat and cure all cancers. 27 Years Survival from Stage IV "Incurable" Non Hodgkin's lymphoma

This month marks 27 years survival from lymphatic cancer considered to be incurable. After 4 relapses by 2006, I opted for an experimental treatment whereby a true vaccine was grown from my cancer, to train my immune system to fight the cancer. I had 52 injections from 2006 until 2015. I remain free of lymphoma to this day. The treatment was free of any side effects. I have never been fitter and live life to the fullest 🙏

My serum Chromogranin A level has continued to fall and now, for the first time in 8 years, it is normal.

CGA is a marker for Neuro Endocrine Cancer activity, akin to PSA for prostate cancer. Mine is 83 and falling, normal range is below 101.

Will return to Japan in April for further infusions of autologous activated Natural Killer cells and dendritic cells.

Jeffrey's progress was remarkable; he became disease-free and remained so for over a decade following the treatment, which had minimal side effects compared to chemotherapy.

Advocacy and Legacy
Deslandes documented his journey in the book From Cancer Good Things Grow. He has been a guest speaker and volunteer, sharing his story to inspire other patients and raise awareness about emerging therapies.

The Grace Gawler Institute, a cancer charity with which Deslandes is affiliated, helps other patients access similar, improved versions of these personalized cancer vaccines through a global medical alliance, as the original treatment is no longer available in Australia but can be accessed in Asia.
