Have you come across the new hydro sign on the way to the warm water pool yet? 💧
With the weather cooling down 🥶, we've been very lucky to make use of the warm water pool (and sauna ♨️) over the last few weeks.
We see particular benefit in the following types of issues*:
🔹 1. Low Back Pain impacting your walking 🚶
Consider:
- Walking laps at waist height slowly while relaxing your stomach muscles
- Breathwork with your arms supported on the ledge
-Posterior pelvic tilts in standing
- Relaxed squats
🔹 2. Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis impacting walking, stairs or getting up from a chair
Feel free to check out the GLA-D (land-based) program for more information.
Consider:
- Putting more weight through the affected side when squatting
- Mini walking lunges to improve knee stability
- Wall squat holds with the affected side's heel closer to the wall
🔹 3. After surgery
Hydrotherapy can be particularly helpful if you're not yet allowed to put full weight through a body part. Just make sure you've planned ahead for getting in and out of the pool safely.
🔹 4. Balance and coordination issues, including fear of falling: 👣
Consider
- Tightrope walking
- Mini walking lunges
- Turning 90 degrees on the spot
- Tapping the ground in front of you while lifting your toes
If you think you might benefit from hydrotherapy and would like a supervised exercise program demonstrated by a physiotherapist, feel free to reach out.
