โœจ World Well-Being Week

Well Being Is Not A Luxury It's A Necessity. In a world that glorifies being busy, it's easy to forget the most important thing how you actually feel. ๐Ÿ’š

This World Well-Being Week, we want to remind our community that taking care of your overall wellbeing physically, mentally and emotionally is not selfish. It's essential.

Well-being isn't just about being free from illness. It's about truly thriving. ๐ŸŒŸ
Ask yourself honestly how are you doing in these areas?

๐Ÿง  Mental Well Being:
Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed or low more often than not? Are you getting enough rest and managing stress in healthy ways?

โค๏ธ Physical Well Being
Are you moving your body regularly? Eating nourishing foods? Staying on top of your health checks and screenings?

๐Ÿ˜ด Sleep Well Being
Are you getting 7โ€“9 hours of quality sleep? Poor sleep affects everything โ€” mood, immunity, weight and concentration.

๐Ÿค Social Well Being
Are you staying connected with the people who matter? Loneliness has a very real impact on our physical and mental health.

๐Ÿ’† Emotional Well Being
Are you making space to process your emotions? Talking to someone when things feel too heavy to carry alone?

Small steps that can transform your well-being:
โœ… Book that health check you've been putting off
โœ… Go for a 20-minute walk each day
โœ… Reach out to a friend or family member

Burns are one of the most painful and preventable injuries and they can happen in an instant, right in the comfort of your own home. This National Burn Awareness Week, we want to help keep our community safe and informed. ๐Ÿ’š
Did you know?

๐Ÿ”น Over 1,200 Australians are hospitalised with serious burn injuries every year
๐Ÿ”น Children under 5 and adults over 65 are at the highest risk
๐Ÿ”น The majority of burns occur at home in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry
๐Ÿ”น Hot drinks are one of the leading causes of scalds in young children

Common causes of burns to watch out for:
๐Ÿณ Hot cooking surfaces and splashing oil
โ˜• Hot drinks and liquids especially around children
๐Ÿ› Scalding hot bath or shower water
๐Ÿ”Œ Electrical appliances and cords
โ˜€๏ธ Sunburn yes, it's a burn too!
๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Open flames, candles and bonfires

Simple precautions that can make all the difference:
โœ… Always turn pot handles inward on the stove
โœ… Test bath water temperature before placing children in
โœ… Keep hot drinks out of reach of young children
โœ… Install and regularly test smoke alarms
โœ… Keep a basic first aid kit at home
โœ… Apply sunscreen daily SPF 50+ recommended

What to do if a burn occurs:
1๏ธโƒฃ Cool the burn under cool running water for at least 20 minutes
2๏ธโƒฃ Do NOT use ice, butter or toothpaste
3๏ธโƒฃ Cover loosely with a clean bandage or cling wrap

Let's be honest when it comes to seeing a doctor, most men will put it off for as long as possible. Sound familiar? ๐Ÿ˜…

This Men's Health Week, we're calling on all the men in our community and the people who love them to make health a priority. Because looking after yourself isn't a sign of weakness. It's one of the strongest things you can do. ๐Ÿ’š
The stats don't lie:

๐Ÿ”น Australian men die on average 4 years younger than women
๐Ÿ”น Men are far less likely to visit a GP regularly
๐Ÿ”น 1 in 8 men will experience depression in their lifetime
๐Ÿ”น Prostate cancer affects 1 in 6 Australian men
๐Ÿ”น Men account for over 75% of all su***de deaths in Australia

Men when did you last get checked for:
โœ… Blood pressure and cholesterol
โœ… Diabetes
โœ… Prostate health
โœ… Mental health and wellbeing

๐Ÿ“… Health Check Reminder | When Did You Last See Your Doctor?
Life gets busy. We put everyone else first our families, our work, our responsibilities. But here's the thing you can't pour from an empty cup. ๐Ÿ’š

If you can't remember the last time you had a proper health check, this is your sign. ๐Ÿ‘‡
Regular health checks can detect:

โค๏ธ High blood pressure and heart disease risk
๐Ÿฉธ Diabetes and pre-diabetes
๐Ÿงช High cholesterol
๐Ÿซ Respiratory conditions
๐Ÿง  Mental health concerns
๐Ÿ”ฌ Early signs of cancer
๐Ÿฆด Bone density issues
โš–๏ธ Weight and metabolic concerns

The scary truth? Many serious conditions have no obvious symptoms in the early stages. By the time you feel unwell, the condition may have already progressed. That's why routine check-ups are so important even when you feel perfectly fine.
How often should you get checked?
โœ… Under 45 every 2 years
โœ… Over 45 every year
โœ… If you have a chronic condition or family history speak to your GP about how often is right for you

At Karingal Hub Doctors, a health check is quick, thorough and done in a warm and welcoming environment. Our GPs take the time to truly listen and make sure you leave with a clear picture of your health.
Don't ignore the signs โ€” schedule your health screening and take care of yourself. ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ”ต Bowel Cancer | Screening Today Can Protect Your Tomorrow
Did you know that bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia but also one of the most treatable when caught early?

Every year, thousands of Australians are diagnosed with bowel cancer. The sobering truth is that many cases could be detected much earlier with regular screening. Early detection saves lives โ€” it really is that simple.

Know the signs. Don't ignore them:

๐Ÿ”น Blood in the stool or re**al bleeding
๐Ÿ”น A change in bowel habits lasting more than a few weeks
๐Ÿ”น Persistent abdominal pain, cramping or bloating
๐Ÿ”น Unexplained weight loss
๐Ÿ”น Ongoing fatigue or weakness
๐Ÿ”น A feeling that your bowel doesn't empty completely

Who should be screened?
โœ… Australians aged 45 and over are encouraged to screen regularly
โœ… Those with a family history of bowel cancer should speak to their GP sooner
โœ… Anyone experiencing persistent symptoms โ€” regardless of age

The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program offers a free at-home test kit for eligible Australians. If you haven't done yours yet, now is the time. ๐Ÿ“ฌ

At Karingal Hub Doctors, our GPs can discuss your bowel cancer screening options, review your results, and refer you to the right specialist if needed. We provide a comfortable, caring and judgement-free environment to talk about what can often feel like an embarrassing topic but one that is incredibly important.
