School holidays often mean more time indoors and more time on screens. But increased screen use can raise the risk of myopia, or short-sightedness, in children.

One of the simplest ways to support your child’s eye health is by encouraging 1 to 2 hours of outdoor time each day. Natural light helps promote healthy eye development and can delay the onset and progression of myopia.

Meet Allara!

Allara is a Clinical Audiologist at George & Matilda Eyecare for Figtree Optometrists. She completed a Bachelor of Medical and Health Sciences, with a focus on anatomy and physiology. Her passion for healthcare led her to Macquarie University, where she went on to complete a Master of Clinical Audiology, graduating in 2021.

Since then, Allara has been working in adult rehabilitation, supporting hundreds of patients with diagnosis, rehabilitation, and ongoing hearing care. She’s known for her patient-first approach, taking the time to understand each individual’s needs and delivering expert, personalised care to help improve their hearing and overall quality of life.

Originally from Hobart, Alex returned home to Tasmania after completing a Master of Optometry and Bachelor of Vision Science, with a passion for delivering quality eye care to the Huon Valley community.
As a therapeutically endorsed Optometrist, Alex focuses on comprehensive eye examinations, ongoing eye health, and the management of a wide range of ocular conditions.

You can find Alex in practice on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
