Becoming a parent is full of new and unexpected experiences. One thing we know for sure - babies love time with their dads.

Recent research into dad and baby bonding reported that babies may be more likely to develop strong, secure attachment to their dads when they’ve had a lot of one-on-one time together since birth.

As a dad, your role is so important. Babies, even newborns, look to their parents for attachment, bonding and emotional security.

Here are some things you can do to start building an early bond with your newborn:

🔹 Hold and cuddle your baby

🔹 Help during and after feeds, by burping, changing, and soothing your baby

🔹 Talk to your newborn- calmly or reassuringly when they are upset, or just chatting about what you are doing or what's going on around you

🔹 Make bath-time a ritual- this is something you can do every day and many babies love the warm water

It’s OK if you don’t feel an instant bond or connection with your baby. Like any relationship, it is going to take time to get to know each other. Your life will probably look different after a baby, and these changes take a while to adjust to.

If you need support or want to talk about your role as a dad, PANDA is here to help.

10 years in practice! Wow - I cannot believe it has been 10 years since I opened the doors to my private practice in Fremantle. What a journey it has been and what a privilege! Hearing client stories and witnessing their courage and strength to change their lives and heal their hearts and souls. Words cannot describe how grateful I am to each client who trusted me to walk alongside them and be witness to their growth and recovery. I have learnt so much from all of you and have been inspired by your courage and commitment to change – Thank you!
As Irvin Yalom says “Life as a therapist is a life of service in which we daily transcend our personal wishes and turn our gaze toward the needs and growth of the other. We take pleasure not only in the growth of our patient but also in the ripple effect—the salutary influence our patients have upon those whom they touch in life.” - The Gift of Therapy
