Day 1 - In Clinic @ Sozo Brain Center.
Met international doctors from Vienna and Germany who are also here to shadow at the center. Was great to be able to converse in German again.

Spent the day with chief neurologist learning all about the their functional neurological assessment; brain networks and clinical application; structural vs functional connectivity; different types of tremors; how to conduct an EEG and so much more ….

We saw international patients with conditions such as Parkinson’s, bilateral hand tremor, tinnitus, anxiety/panic attacks, multiple system atrophy (msa)

My learnings from today - a good functional neurological assessment and EEG will highlight which brain networks and hubs are at play ( potentially over or under firing)and how that leads to the symptoms we so often see in clients.

Think of the brain like a city:
Brain regions are like neighborhoods.

Networks are the roads connecting them.

Hubs are major intersections where lots of traffic passes through.

Neuromodulation is like the traffic control system. It can make communication flow more smoothly, slow it down, or redirect it depending on what's needed.

It also helps the brain learn and adapt.

The brain can strengthen useful connections, weaken less useful ones, and form new pathways—a property called plasticity.

So As the saying goes “the problem is not in the tissue its in the brain” 🧠

Oh my stars! 🌟
It’s time for a Monday Moment!!

Charlie’s yawn is the perfect reminder that sometimes the most productive thing we can do is pause. 🐾

In a fast-paced world, it’s easy to keep pushing without stopping - but just like Charlie, our minds need time to reset. Pausing isn’t falling behind; it’s creating space to think clearly, regain energy, and approach challenges with fresh perspective.

A simple reset can look like stepping away from your screen, taking a few slow breaths, stretching, or allowing yourself a moment of quiet. These small pauses help prevent overwhelm and support better focus, decision-making, and wellbeing.

At Thinkahead, we encourage building regular reset moments into your day. Because when we pause intentionally, we return more present, more resilient, and better equipped to move forward.

Take a cue from Charlie today - pause, reset, and give your mind the space it needs to thrive. 🧠💙

🐶💛 Tuesday Tip: When Eye Contact Feels Hard

In this photo, pupstar Gracie is turning her head away and avoiding eye contact. She’s not being “naughty” or ignoring anyone - she may simply be feeling unsure, overstimulated, or not ready to connect in that moment.

And just like Gracie, many children find eye contact and joint attention challenging.

👀 Eye contact isn’t just about “looking at someone.”
🤝 Joint attention isn’t just about sharing a toy.

They are foundational social communication skills that develop when a child feels:
✔️ Regulated
✔️ Safe
✔️ Engaged
✔️ Motivated

When eye contact is difficult, it can be linked to:
• Sensory sensitivities
• Anxiety or overwhelm
• Delays in social communication
• Difficulty sustaining attention

At Thinkahead Psychology, we take a team approach to building these skills:

🧠 Occupational Therapy
Our OTs support sensory regulation and emotional regulation so children feel calm and organised enough to engage. When the body feels safe, connection becomes easier.

💬 Speech Pathology
Our speech pathologists target early social communication skills - responding to name, turn-taking, shared enjoyment, and naturally building eye contact within meaningful interaction (not forced).

🌱 Behavioural Therapy
Our behavioural therapists use positive reinforcement and structured teaching strategies to gently shape and strengthen eye contact and joint attention in ways that are motivating and functional.

We don’t force eye contact.
We build the foundations that make connection possible.

Just like with Gracie - when she feels comfortable and trusts the person in front of her, eye contact comes naturally.

💙 Connection first. Skills follow.

If you have concerns about your child’s eye contact or shared attention, our team is here to support you.
