Meet Molly! ☀️

Molly is a second-year student studying a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at James Cook University, who has recently joined us in 2026 at Health Collective Group. 🩷

One of Molly’s favourite parts of the role is sitting in on paediatric appointments. She enjoys working closely with children and seeing their progress each week, while gaining a deeper understanding of their strengths and areas where they may need additional support. She is passionate about helping enhance each child’s independence and supporting them to achieve their goals.🖍️📚

Molly enjoys all things sport, particularly netball and touch football. In her downtime, she loves spending quality time with friends and family, going for coffee and walks, and heading to the beach. 🏖️🏐

In occupational therapy, mindfulness isn’t just about calming the mind. It's about supporting meaningful participation, regulating the nervous system, and helping you stay present in your daily roles. Here are three OT-informed ways to reset during the day:

🌿 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding
Use your senses to anchor yourself.
🧠Try this during functional tasks: while washing dishes, walking to your car, or organizing your workspace, to increase sensory awareness and improve focus.

💛 Quick Body Scan
Check in from head to toe and notice how your body feels.
🧠Pair the scan with posture adjustments, deep-pressure input (like pressing feet into the floor), or ergonomic changes to support comfort and body regulation.

🔷 Box Breathing
Inhale 4 - Hold 4 - Exhale 4 - Hold 4.
🧠Use this during transitions: before a meeting, between tasks, or before entering your home, to support emotional regulation and pacing.

Small, intentional moments can help you show up more fully to the activities and roles that matter most. 💫

Yesterday, Claire, Belinda, and Tamsin had the opportunity to attend the Townsville Aged and Disability Expo to represent Health Collective Group 💙

It was a fantastic day connecting with members of the community, building relationships with fellow service providers, and sharing more about the supports and services we offer. 🤝

Falls can happen to anyone, but most occur at home or during everyday activities. The latest data from the AIHW (2023–24) shows exactly where and how Australians are most at risk, and it highlights why Occupational Therapists play such a key role in keeping people safe and independent.

Here’s how you can get a head start in your own home:
- Secure loose extension cords and cables
- Remove or tuck away loose rugs and mats
- Improve lighting in hallways, bathrooms, and stairs
- Add grab rails where needed
- Keep frequently used items within easy reach

Small changes can make a big difference. OTs are experts in assessing your space, daily routines, and tasks to reduce fall risk and help you move with confidence. 💛
