Meander Valley Midwifery

Meander Valley Midwifery Welcome to Meander Valley Midwifery! A premium midwifery service located in the beautiful Meander Valley Tasmania.

I am excited to be able to offer midwifery services to rural women and their families. I originally started this page in 2016 to support my private practice Lockyer Valley Midwifery. In 2020 I decided to pursue a PhD in 2021 and move to the beach (bucket list)! This page has some priceless memories and I really didn't want to shut it down and neither did my previous clients and other followers, we

needed to keep in touch! so..I changed the name and the nature of the page in 2020. Feel free to contact me anytime I always love to hear from you all xx.

To make sure everyone can access CPD and support for their endorsed midwifery journey, the conference will be recorded, for those who can't make it in person.
Everyone who attends in-person will also get the recording, but for those who can't join us in person, you can register for just the recording in the same place as you register for in-person attendance. One or two day recordings are available. https://generationhertribe.com/midwife-conference

As some may know, I recently opened up my practice in the Meander Valley. I was quite shocked to realise that most people do not know what a private midwife is or what we do, despite being around since 2010! So I am going to write a series of posts outlining what it is we actually do! Here is the first lot of info for you.

1. We do prescribe medications
2. We do order ultrasounds
3. We do specialise in physiological birth, however care for all women despite the complexities
4. We do not do c/sections (we can support you through this, though)
5. This practice does a women's health clinic, including Implanon, iron infusions, cervical screening and sexual health advice

There are a number of different approaches to the birth of the placenta.

Some women birth their placenta naturally.

Some have their placental birth medically managed.

There are pros and cons to each option.

If you have certain other types of intervention, such as induction or augmentation of labour, your options may be more limited, but you still have choices.

To answer a question that we get asked by many women: your placenta belongs to you.

It is always a good idea to get informed before you decide what's right for you.

Looking forward to presenting at the National Endorsed Midwife Conference! What diverse line up of speakers should be excellent and the 'Practical Magic' themed dinner will be a lot of fun too.

Another ripple…
Dawn Reid

Some ripples begin quietly β€” built over decades of dedication, advocacy, and deep commitment to women, midwives, and the future of care.

Dawn has spent more than 30 years working across maternity and healthcare β€” from clinical care to leadership, education, and now advocacy. Her work continues to shape the profession in ways that reach far beyond a single role or setting.

From private practice to policy, from bedside to boardroom β€” this is what creating change looks like.

✨ Now, Dawn is sharing her research into the experiences of endorsed privately practicing midwives providing homebirth services in Australia β€” amplifying the voices of those already building new models of care.

These are the ripples that become waves.

πŸ’› And this is your reminder β€” every action, every voice, every step toward something better matters.
