August is Tradies HEalth Month: here's what you should know
Tradies' health challenges
Our 2026 survey of tradies from across the country has revealed the following challenges faced by them in the past year:
• 68% of Tradies say they most commonly experience pain or discomfort in their back, neck or shoulders.
• More than half of Tradies, including nearly 40% of those in Gen Z and more than a third of millennials, say they lack confidence in their ability to continue working in their trade until retirement age, with ongoing physical strain and general wear and tear the most cited reasons.
• Only 10% of Tradies say they regularly see a physio to help prevent work-related pain or injury.
A previous survey found that nearly two-thirds of tradies who have seen a physiotherapist reported significant pain reduction or eradication.

Now is the time to look after our tradie health and wellbeing
August is Tradies National Health Month (TNHM),
Here's why tradies need physios
Physiotherapy can be transformative for tradies, addressing common persistent issues like back, knee, and shoulder pain that can significantly impact quality of life. Here’s how physiotherapy makes a difference:
• Prevent injuries: Physiotherapists teach techniques to work safely and avoid common injuries.
• Early intervention: Addressing pain early helps prevent chronic issues and long-term complications.
• Enhance quality of life: By managing pain effectively, physiotherapy enables tradies to maintain their productivity and enjoy their daily activities.
• Adapt with age: Physiotherapists help tradies adjust their work habits as their bodies age, reducing the risk of injury and prolonging their careers.

August is Tradies National Health and Wellbeing month
Tradies National Health Month (TNHM), established by the APA in 2012, raises awareness of the physical and mental challenges faced by those in trade professions.
From injury prevention and pain management to improving mobility and strength, physiotherapists are uniquely placed to support tradies throughout their careers.
In 2026, Australia continues to face critical trade shortages and growing infrastructure demands.
Now more than ever, it’s vital to invest in the health of our tradie workforce – because when tradies thrive, our communities do too.
