Timothy King - FNFT

Timothy King - FNFT Fast and functional is training for Manual soft tissue therapy professionals. We inspire therapists My name is Timothy King.

I have practiced Myotherapy for nearly 20 years and treat more patients in a 30 hour week than most Myotherapists treat in a month. When I first started practicing I suspected that myofascial pain would be rare, yet after a few months of consultation as a green young therapist I was astounded at the prevalence of this type of pain and dysfunction. I became a 'Myotherapy crusader', determined to sh

ow the world that so much treatable chronic pain was unresolved and misdiagnosed. I am still passionate in this pursuit today. My quest today is to inspire and encourage Myotherapists everywhere to attain the kind of success that I have grown used to. Myotherapist's need to know that their skills are industry leading and their knowledge is up to date with the latest scientific trends in the musculoskeletal therapy industry. The Myotherapy industry is poised for massive influence. KingMyoPro exists to inspire Myotherapists to see their potential, establish their identity and thrive in results, personal satisfaction and industry influence.

People often see Fast & Functional and probably assume it started as a business idea, but it really didn’t.

It started with two clinicians living in different states who both saw complex patients. The ones who had already seen multiple practitioners, had scans that didn’t explain their pain, were exhausted by headaches, jaw pain, neck tension and strange symptoms, and were still searching for answers.

Tim and I have collaborated in the TMD space for over 9 years now. During that time we’ve spent countless hours/days/years comparing notes, sharing ideas, teaching together and trying to understand why some patients improve and others stay stuck.

We came from different clinical backgrounds (me- dental, Tim- bodywork), which ended up being one of our biggest strengths.

Over time, the same patterns kept showing up. The jaw rarely exists in isolation. Pain rarely has one simple cause. People are complex and they deserve to be treated that way.

Fast & Functional grew from that curiosity, and from wanting to share what we had learnt from more than 50 years of combined clinical practice.

Not because we think we have all the answers, but because we believe clinicians need practical ways to connect the dots, and patients deserve to feel heard.

The patients have probably taught us more than any textbook ever could.

So for everyone new here, hi and welcome!

We’re Sarah and Tim. We’re slightly obsessed with persistent pain, TMD, breathing, function and helping clinicians feel more confident with complex cases.

Thank you for being here 🙏

One of the most important things we’ve learnt in treating TMD is this:

Most patients don’t begin as complex cases.

They become complex over time.

And often, that happens because the original issue wasn’t clearly identified at the beginning.

In busy clinical environments, it’s easy to move quickly into treatment. To try and fix the problem straight away.

But when we don’t fully understand what’s driving the pain, we risk treating symptoms rather than the cause.

This is where therapeutic alliance becomes essential.

Taking the time to listen to your patient, to understand their experience, and to connect the dots between their symptoms and underlying function.

In many cases, patients will give you the information you need, if you create the space to hear it.

FNFT places a strong emphasis on early, accurate triage.

Not to slow clinicians down, but to make their decisions clearer and more effective.

Because when you treat the right thing from the start, outcomes improve.

And ultimately, that’s what matters most.

Improving quality of life for the patient.

What is FNFT, really?

It’s a question we hear often, especially from clinicians who have already done TMD training but still don’t feel confident applying it in practice.

FNFT isn’t another theory-heavy approach.

It’s a function-first treatment model designed to simplify how you assess and manage TMD in real time.

Instead of focusing directly on pain, FNFT focuses on improving movement…because when function improves, pain often follows.

The process is intentionally simple:

Assess → Treat → Re-test

Using targeted, fascia-based techniques and an understanding of the nervous system, small inputs can create immediate changes.

This allows you to know, on the spot, whether what you’re doing is working.

That’s what most clinicians are missing. Not more information, but a clear, repeatable process they can trust.

The course is designed to reflect that.

Concise. Practical. Immediately usable.

So you can walk back into clinic and apply it straight away, without needing months of additional training.

Why do some TMD patients keep coming back… still in pain?

Even after treatment.

It’s something we’ve both seen repeatedly in clinic.

Most clinicians aren’t lacking knowledge.
They’re missing key pieces of the puzzle.

Jaw pain often gets treated as a single issue
without identifying what’s actually driving it.

Is it joint or muscle?
Is there tension coming from the neck?
Is tongue posture affecting stability?
Is airway or sleep playing a role?

When these factors are missed, treatment can become repetitive
without creating lasting change.

Over time, simple cases become complex ones.

The goal isn’t to add more information.

It’s to refine how you assess and connect the dots.

Because when you understand the driver,
your treatment becomes clearer, faster, and more effective.

Manual therapy can be physically demanding. FNFT was developed to improve efficiency and sustainability by using targeted inputs to create faster outcomes.

Doing hands-on work can be physically demanding, particularly when traditional approaches rely on time, pressure, and repetition.

Early in my clinical career, I followed these models. While they produced results, they were often slow for the patient and increasingly taxing on the practitioner over time.

This led me to question whether there was a more efficient and sustainable way to approach treatment.

Over the course of more than 60,000 treatments, I began focusing on how fascia and the nervous system respond to targeted input. Rather than relying on force, small, precise interventions can create rapid changes in function.

This became the foundation of Functional Neuromyofascial Technique (FNFT).

A system designed not only to improve patient outcomes, but to support practitioner longevity.

That same principle carries through to the course design.

It is concise, practical, and focused on immediate clinical application, enabling clinicians to implement what they learn straight away in practice.

Our first in-person FNFT course was held in Brisbane back in 2018. Here are 5 things we the love most about our in-person workshops:

1) The clinicians who show up ready to learn and challenge their thinking
2) The moment when things finally click and confidence starts to build
3) The conversations between different professions, sharing perspectives and approaches
4) The shift from uncertainty to clarity throughout the day
5) And the sense of community that forms naturally

One of the biggest benefits isn’t just the learning itself, it’s the connections.
Clinicians leave not only with new skills, but with a network of like-minded professionals they can continue to learn from and refer to.
That multidisciplinary approach is something we strongly believe in.

Why don’t some pain patients get better, even after multiple treatments?

It’s something we’ve both seen consistently in clinic.

These patients are not untreated. In fact, many have had extensive care. Splints, occlusal adjustments, medications, and in some cases, even surgery.

But despite all of this, the pain remains.

Over time, we began to recognise a pattern.

The issue often isn’t a lack of intervention, it’s incorrect triage at the beginning.

If a muscular or functional issue is managed as a structural problem, the underlying driver is never addressed. As a result, the condition can become chronic and more difficult to resolve.

In many cases, key elements are overlooked:

• function and movement
• the role of fascia and tension patterns
• the influence of the nervous system
• psychosocial factors that contribute to pain

When these are not considered, treatment can become repetitive without being effective.

FNFT was developed to approach TMD differently.

A function-first model that focuses on restoring movement, allowing pain to reduce as a secondary outcome.

Not more treatment, but more accurate treatment.

There’s a moment many clinicians experience with TMD patients.

You know something isn’t right.
You can see the pain.

But internally, you’re asking yourself:

Is this the joint?
The muscle?
Something more complex?

And then comes the hesitation.

For many dental professionals especially, working beyond the teeth into function can feel uncomfortable. Even intimidating.

Sarah went through this exact phase.

Not knowing if she was feeling the right structures.
Not feeling confident stepping into treatment.
Questioning whether she should even be treating it at all.

The issue wasn’t a lack of care or intelligence.
It was a lack of clear clinical framework.

FNFT was built to provide that clarity.

A simple, structured way to:
• triage TMD presentations
• understand what you’re feeling
• apply the right intervention
• and re-test immediately

Because when function improves, pain often follows.

And when patients feel that change quickly, it shifts everything
their belief, their engagement, and their trust in the process.

One of the most common things we hear after clinicians learn FNFT is:

“I finally understand what I’m doing.”

Not just the techniques
but when to use them
and when not to

Doing hands-on work can be hard work, and over time, it adds up.

In my early years in clinic, I followed the traditional approach. Longer sessions, more pressure, more physical effort. And while I was getting results, I could feel the strain it was putting on my body.

At the same time, I was seeing how long it was taking for patients to improve. That never quite sat right with me.

After treating thousands of patients, I realised the question wasn’t how to work harder, it was how to work smarter.

That’s what led to the development of FNFT.

A system focused on efficiency and longevity. Instead of relying on force, it works with fascia and the nervous system to create change quickly and with less strain on the practitioner.

Over 60,000 treatments later, the biggest takeaway has been this: when you understand how the body responds, you don’t need to overcomplicate things.

This is exactly how the course is designed.

Concise. Practical. Immediately usable.

So you can apply it with your next patient, not after months of learning, but straight away.
