PMOS (formerly PCOS): what is it, and what helps?

This condition was never just an "o***y problem" it's a whole-body metabolic condition driven largely by insulin resistance. That's why it affects everything from your cycles to your mood and cardiometabolic health.

When treating PMOS, you have total control - as lifestyle changes in diet and exercise are first line treatment. Exercise is one of the few things that improves your metabolic, reproductive, mental and heart health all at once.

At MOVE, our Exercise Physiologist works with you to build a plan around your body, your goals and your life. Meeting you where you are at now, and supporting you with achievable and sustainable lifestyle habits that have long lasting health benefits.

The Hip Hinge - Is like the God Mother of all movement patterns. But despite its superiority, many people find it particularly tricky to perform correctly.

A hip hinge is exactly as the name suggests. You hinge, from the hips in forward flexion and return through hip extension using the muscles from the posterior chain: hamstrings, glutes, lower/mid back and core.

If this movement pattern is new to you, it’s really important you first understand the goal and function of the movement, and how to do it correctly without load.
Only add load, and progressively overload once you have nailed the pattern first - this is essential if you want to get the most out of the exercise, as well as preventing injuries.

At Move, we work closely with all our clients to help them understand movement patterns and function, by supporting them to build strong body awareness and appropriate progressive overload.

If you’re not sure where to start, unsure of your technique, or struggling to progressively overload confidently on your own. We can help you overcome that hurdle.

Strength training does not need to be complicated to be effective.

Before choosing exercises, get clear on your training days, session length, experience level, injury history, and your goal.

Then build around key movement patterns: squats and hinges for the legs, pushing and pulling for the upper body.

Progress comes from consistently challenging your body over time.

Congratulations to Des’ client who successfully did her first run following a complex ACL injury / and long recovery. This is a big win worth celebrating, as we fully understand the tiring process getting to this point. Well done!

At MOVE we love celebrating our wins - clinical or personal, we believe it’s important to regularly highlight the reward for effort, no matter how big or small.
