Luke is off to the United States 🇺🇸✈️

Lumi is still operating on a limited basis while he’s away, and in a move that has absolutely not been approved by HR, Ollie has been promoted from mascot to Lead Counsellor. 🍊👓

His qualifications are questionable, his note-taking is mostly scribbles, and he keeps suggesting snacks as a therapeutic intervention... but morale is high.

If you’d rather wait for an actual human, Luke is back on deck from September 11.

Meet & Greets can still be booked now for when he returns 🧡

You’ve tried being patient.
You’ve tried consequences.
You’ve tried being firmer.
You’ve tried giving them space.

And somehow you’re still thinking:

“What am I actually supposed to do here?”

When the things that used to work suddenly stop working, parenting can start to feel like pure guesswork.

But sometimes, the behaviour you’re fighting isn’t actually the real problem.

I wrote about what might be happening underneath it, and what can help when you feel like you’ve tried everything.

3 months of lumi. 🧡

Three months ago, lumi opened its doors because I could see a need.

Young people needed somewhere they could feel comfortable, understood and genuinely supported. A space where counselling could still be meaningful, without always feeling like counselling.

Since then, there have been over 200 sessions.

A lot of laughter. Hard conversations. Chess games. Footy. Minecraft. Breakthroughs. Brave moments. Growth. And plenty of goals smashed along the way.

And maybe the clearest sign that the need was there: just three months in, lumi is already approaching capacity.

That honestly means a lot.

Not because being “full” was ever the goal, but because behind every booking is a young person or family choosing to trust lumi with something that matters.

I’m incredibly thankful for every family who has walked through the door, and for the schools, professionals and organisations who have referred, shared resources, opened doors and started building genuine partnerships with lumi.

Three months. 200+ sessions. Almost full.

More importantly, a growing community around young people who deserve good support.

And lumi has only just begun. 🧡

“I don’t recognise my child anymore.”

It’s a sentence I hear from parents when they know something has shifted, even if they can’t quite explain what.

More anger. More withdrawal. More battles. Or just a sense that their child isn’t quite themselves.

You don’t always need to have the answer straight away. Sometimes the best place to start is simply noticing, staying curious, and looking underneath what you can see.

I wrote a new blog for parents sitting in that space (4 minute reading time)

Therapy can look exactly how you’d expect: two chairs, sitting opposite each other, talking.

But with kids and teens, it often looks completely different. Chess. Footy. Lego. Minecraft. Drawing. Making something. Talking side by side.

It all comes down to what helps that young person feel comfortable enough to be themselves. Because it’s their space.

That’s what I mean by therapy that doesn’t feel like therapy.

For Lumi, the goal isn’t to make them fit therapy. It’s to make therapy fit them.

🧱 Sometimes the best way to understand a young person is to stop asking them to enter our world, and step into theirs. 🔨

For this young person, that world is Minecraft.

So the whiteboard became the Overworld, the Nether and The End. He taught me what each one meant, corrected my terminology several times, and was remarkably patient with a counsellor who clearly had no business pretending he understood Minecraft.

But this wasn’t a game we played before getting to the “real” counselling.

This WAS the counselling.

We used his world, his language and his imagination to explore how his brain works, what gets in the way, what helps, and the goals he wants to work towards.

That’s what Lumi is all about.

Meeting young people where they are, using what already makes sense to them, and creating therapy that doesn’t feel like therapy.

I enter their world because that’s where the trust is built, the insight starts to click, and the growth actually happens.

🤫 Your kid tells you less every time telling you feels like a mistake.

We fix. We lecture. We panic. We jump to solutions. Usually because we care.
But trust is built in what happens next when a young person tells us something hard.

I wrote about how parents and professionals can keep that door open.

👀 You know something’s wrong. But your child keeps saying, “I don’t know.”

Anxiety can look like shutting down, anger, school avoidance, overthinking or constant reassurance.

The goal isn’t to force them to talk. It’s to help them feel safe enough to open up, understand what’s going on, and build practical ways to handle it.

Counselling doesn’t have to be sitting in a room answering questions. Sometimes we talk. Sometimes we play, walk, draw or just find another way in.

If you’re worried about your child, you can start with a free 15-minute meet greet call. No obligation.

This photo takes me right back.

My Time for Youth days in Geelong, now Meli.

I was much younger and had plenty to learn, but even then I knew I wanted to spend my career working alongside young people.

A lot has happened professionally since then. Different roles, different places, and a lot of learning along the way.

And now I’m back in Geelong, doing that work again through Lumi.

It feels pretty special to come full circle and plant my roots here, serving the kids, teens and families of the community where so much of it started.

If you work with young people or families across Geelong, I’d genuinely love to connect.
