🌮🍪✨ Sweet treats were on the menu at Distinctive Options ✨🍪🌮

Acacia, Stefan, Erin, Sienna and Amelia took part in our MasterChef program, baking delicious Mexican wedding cakes for the very first time! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳🎉

Everyone enjoyed getting hands-on in the kitchen, mixing the ingredients, rolling the biscuits, coating them in icing sugar and placing them into colourful patty pans. The finished biscuits looked amazing and tasted even better! 😋🍪

Mexican wedding cakes are traditionally served at special celebrations, including weddings, and are known for their buttery texture and snowball-like appearance. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn new cooking skills, build confidence, and have plenty of fun together. 💛👏

At Distinctive Options, our group programs provide opportunities to learn new skills, make friends, build independence and be part of the community while having fun along the way. 🌟🤝💙

Last Wednesday, Sunbury Memorial Hall came alive with colour, laughter, and racing spirit as participants and staff gathered for a day of fun and friendly competition.

Kiara and Chris impressed with their race-day style, taking out Best Dressed, while Brayen's creative headwear earned him the Best Hat award. 🎩✨ A special appearance from "Pharlap" had everyone smiling, and after an exciting Hobby Horse Race, Deb successfully defended her Staff Championship title for the second year running! 🐴🏆

Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch from the DO Food Truck before being treated to a surprise performance from the DO Band. 🎶🌭

A big thank you to Sophie and her team for organising another fantastic event. Judging by the smiles on everyone's faces, it was a fabulous day had by all! 💙😊

Distinctive Options announces CEO resignation.

The Board of Distinctive Options has announced that Chief Executive Officer, Andre Carvalho will step down from his role on Friday, 22 January 2027, to pursue a new leadership opportunity.

During his time as CEO, Andre has led the organisation through a period of significant change, with a focus on strengthening organisational structures, improving operations and governance, and building a more sustainable future for DO.

Distinctive Options Board Chair, Alistair Lloyd, acknowledged Andre's leadership and contribution during an important period for the organisation.

"Andre joined Distinctive Options at a time when the organisation was facing significant challenges. Throughout his tenure, he has focused on addressing longstanding issues, strengthening our operations and governance, and laying the foundations for a more sustainable future.

His leadership has helped bring greater clarity and direction to the organisation, with a clear strategy now in place to guide DO's next chapter.

On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Andre for his leadership and contribution to Distinctive Options and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career."

Reflecting on his time at Distinctive Options, Andre said it had been a privilege to lead an organisation with such a strong history and commitment to supporting people with disability.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have led Distinctive Options and worked alongside such a dedicated and passionate team. I'm proud of what we've achieved together during a period of significant change and the foundations we've established for the future.

Above all, it's the people who make DO such a special organisation, and I'll always value the relationships I've built with our Board, staff, participants, families and community partners. I've genuinely loved being part of this community, and I leave with enormous respect for the people who make a difference every day."

Andre will continue in his role until 22 January 2027, working closely with the Board and Executive Leadership Team to ensure a smooth leadership transition and continued progress on the organisation's strategic and operational priorities.

The Board will now commence the recruitment process for a new Chief Executive Officer.

Throughout the transition, Distinctive Options will continue delivering services and progressing key initiatives as planned, maintaining our commitment to providing high-quality, person-centred disability supports across regional Victoria.

🌈 Happy International Pronouns Day! 🏳️‍🌈

At DO, we’re proud to celebrate gender diversity and respect everyone’s right to be known by their chosen pronouns and express their identity authentically.

Using the correct pronouns is a simple but powerful way to show respect, foster inclusion and help everyone feel seen, valued and respected.

Let’s celebrate International Pronouns Day by embracing gender diversity, respecting each other’s identities and making conversations about pronouns a natural part of everyday life.

For our participants, staff and communities, small actions like this can make a big difference. Together, we can create a more inclusive world!
