💛 Women’s Health Week x R U OK? Day | To breathe

Today, two important health messages come together.

Day 4 of Women’s Health Week is “To breathe”, encouraging women to check in with their mental wellbeing, recognise stress and make space to pause.

It’s also R U OK? Day - a reminder that a simple conversation can make a real difference.

Take a moment today to check in with yourself: How am I really going? And while you’re at it, check in with someone around you too.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Sometimes listening, noticing and asking “Are you OK?” is enough to open the door to support.

💛 Pause. Breathe. Check in. Connect.

🌙 Women’s Health Week | Day 3: To rest

Rest is not something you have to earn.

Day 3 of Women’s Health Week is To rest - putting the spotlight on sleep, recovery and giving ourselves permission to slow down.

Good sleep supports our physical and mental health but getting enough isn't always easy. Stress, pain, caring responsibilities, shift work and hormonal changes including perimenopause can all affect sleep.

And rest isn't only about sleep.

It might be five quiet minutes with a cup of tea, sitting outside without your phone, taking a short break during a busy day or simply allowing yourself to do… nothing.

If you'd like to support your sleep, try establishing a regular wind-down routine, getting plenty of natural light during the day and dimming lights in the evening, or looking at how much caffeine you're having later in the day.

Most importantly, don't make rest another thing you have to be perfect at.

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is stop. 💜

👟 Women’s Health Week | Day 2: To move

When you think about being active, you might picture the gym, a long workout or something that leaves you hot and exhausted.
But movement doesn’t have to look like that.

Today’s Women’s Health Week theme is To move - recognising that movement can look different for every woman, every body and every stage of life.

A walk around the block, gardening, stretching while watching TV, dancing around the kitchen, swimming, playing with the kids or meeting a friend for a walk all count.

A few ideas to make movement easier:
Start small and build gradually. Choose something you actually enjoy. Look for ways to make movement part of your normal routine. And if it helps, do it with someone else.

There will always be barriers - busy schedules, caring responsibilities, pain, fatigue, cost or simply not feeling motivated. You don't have to wait for the “perfect” time.

A little movement is still movement. Do it anyway. 💜

🥗 Women’s Health Week | Day 1: To fuel

This Women’s Health Week, Jean Hailes is encouraging women to “do it anyway” - to forget perfection and focus instead on small, realistic steps that support our health.
Today is all about fuel and nourishing your body in a way that works for you.

Eating well doesn’t have to mean following a perfect diet, spending hours preparing food or changing everything at once. Small things count.
🥛 Add some protein to breakfast.
🥦 Add an extra vegetable to dinner.
🍓 Include a few different food groups in your meals.
💧 Keep water handy throughout the day.
🥪 And on those really busy days? Simply making time to actually eat lunch is a win!

Our nutritional needs can change throughout different stages of life, so rather than aiming for perfection, think about one small thing you could do today to fuel yourself well.

💄This September, put women’s mental health on everyone’s lips.

Liptember is dedicated to raising awareness and vital funds for women’s mental health, while encouraging more open conversations about the challenges women can experience throughout different stages of life.

Throughout September, people across Australia are encouraged to wear a bright pop of lipstick, start a conversation, fundraise or donate to help support research, education, advocacy and initiatives focused specifically on women’s mental health. 💗

Sometimes a simple conversation can be the first step towards seeking support.

💜 Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Week 💜

Eating disorders are complex mental illnesses, and there is no single reason why they develop. They can affect people of any age, gender, body size or background - and they don’t always look the way we might expect.

Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Week is an important opportunity to increase understanding, challenge stereotypes and encourage conversations about eating disorders, body image and accessing support.

We’re also pleased to share that our Dietitian, Munise, is now a Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician. 🌿

Munise can provide specialised dietetic support for people experiencing eating disorders, disordered eating and body image concerns, supporting clients with their individual nutritional needs as part of their recovery and care.

If you or someone you care about may need support, reaching out can be an important first step. To find out more about accessing Dietetic support through Macedon Ranges Health, please contact our team on 5428 0300.

💜 Wear It Purple Day | Friday 28 August 2026

This year’s theme, Colours of Courage, celebrates the many different ways courage is shown by LGBTQIA+ young people, allies and communities every day.

Courage can be speaking up and creating change - but it can also be found in quieter moments: being yourself, asking for support, standing beside someone or helping others feel safe, accepted and included.

By wearing purple, we can show rainbow young people that they are seen, valued and supported to be proud of who they are.

At Macedon Ranges Health, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and welcome. Today and every day, let’s choose understanding, acceptance and inclusion. 💜🌈

💜 Bullying No Way Week | 17-21 August 2026

This year’s theme, Small Acts, Big Impact, reminds us that we all have a role to play in preventing bullying and creating communities where everyone feels safe, included and respected.

Small actions can make a meaningful difference:
🤝 Include someone who may be feeling left out
🗣️ Speak up when something doesn’t feel right
💬 Check in with someone who may be struggling
🌟 Celebrate differences and show kindness
👂 Listen and offer support without judgement

Bullying is never okay - at school, online or in the wider community. By looking out for one another and making kindness the norm, we can help create places where everyone feels that they belong.
