Lower back pain after training? It might not be your back's fault. 🎯

Last week our team ran through a "hinging workshop" run by our Chiro and Crossfit coach Joel.

Most people load their spine instead of their hips when they bend, lift, or pick something up β€” and over time, that's exactly what leads to nagging pain.

The fix is learning to hinge properly: hips back, spine neutral, glutes doing the work.

This one movement pattern shows up everywhere β€” deadlifts, kettlebell swings, even loading the dishwasher.

If your back's been niggling and you're not sure why, this might be it. πŸ‘‡

Comment 'HINGE' and we'll send you our FREE form-check guide.

Training in your 30s doesn't require lowering your expectations - it requires respecting recovery.

As we get older, the balance between training load and recovery becomes increasingly important for maintaining performance, reducing injury risk, and continuing to make progress.

Two key takeaways:

πŸ”„ Rest days should facilitate recovery. That means prioritising adequate sleep, nutrition, hydration, and allowing your body time to adapt to the training stimulus.

πŸ•΅β€β™‚οΈ Training needs to be programmed intelligently. Consecutive high-load sessions (e.g. heavy lower body strength training followed by a long or high-intensity run) can compromise recovery and reduce the quality of subsequent sessions.

Recovery isn't the opposite of training - it's where the physiological adaptations you're training for actually occur.

Training for a marathon, half marathon, HYROX event, parkrun, or just trying to stay consistent with your running? Lower limb pain is one of the most common reasons runners are forced to cut back or stop training altogether.

The good news? Pain doesn't always mean you need complete rest.

Common running-related injuries include:

βœ… Shin splints
βœ… Achilles pain
βœ… Runner's knee
βœ… ITB syndrome (pain on the outside of the knee)
βœ… Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)
βœ… Calf strains and tightness
βœ… Hip and glute pain
βœ… Stress-related bone injuries

Many runners assume the problem is simply "tight muscles" or that they need new shoes. While these can play a role, running injuries are often caused by a combination of factors including:

πŸ”Ή Training load increasing too quickly
πŸ”Ή Poor recovery between sessions
πŸ”Ή Strength deficits
πŸ”Ή Running technique inefficiencies
πŸ”Ή Previous injuries
πŸ”Ή Foot and ankle mechanics

At Gladesville Healthcare, our experienced team work together to identify the underlying cause of your pain - not just treat the symptoms.

Our approach may include:

βœ”οΈ A thorough running and injury assessment
βœ”οΈ Load and training management advice
βœ”οΈ Strength and mobility testing
βœ”οΈ Individualised rehabilitation programs
βœ”οΈ Running technique assessment where appropriate
βœ”οΈ Return-to-running plans designed around your goals

Whether you're training for your first 5km (Hi πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ), preparing for a marathon, or chasing a new PB, the goal is simple: keep you running while reducing the risk of the problem becoming something bigger.

Which is right for you - Chiro or Physio?

At Gladesville Healthcare, both teams are almost identical, meaning that you can comfortably book with either one.

Both teams are trained at a Masters level in soft tissue massage, dry needling, exercise rehabilitation, plus address both spinal and peripheral biomechanics. The only difference is a chiropractor can offer gentle and safe joint adjustments, if that is also what you are looking for.

Either way, our goal is to work out what's been driving your pain, get it under control and then build you back to full capacity.

So if it's a ni**le, restriction, sports injury or you just want to move better, then both teams are for you! πŸ˜ƒ

If you're still unsure then message or give us a call and we'll help you choose! πŸ‘

Pain and symptoms don't wait for Monday morning, and neither do we.

From rehab to recovery, strength work to sports injuries - our team is here all week helping people get back to doing what they love πŸ™Œ

No two days at GHC are ever the same. One hour it's runners, the next it's tradies. Then chuck in a little post surgical rehab followed by someone just trying to sleep without neck pain.
