The NDIS is undergoing a major shakeup right now. The government is introducing tougher laws to protect participants, expanding provider rules, and trialing a completely new planning system.
Here is a simple breakdown of the biggest changes:

⚖️ Stronger Protections & Fraud Crackdowns
The NDIS Integrity and Safeguarding Bill 2026 is officially law. To stop rorts and protect participants, providers face up to 5 years in prison for violating banning orders. Corporate fines for severe breaches have also skyrocketed to over $15 million.

🛡️ Changes for SIL & Platform ProvidersAs of July 1, 2026, mandatory registration rules have expanded to cover all Supported Independent Living (SIL) and platform providers to lift safety standards. The government is also cracking down on the shonky sale of pre-registered NDIS businesses.

📋 A "New Way of Planning" is Being TestedThe NDIA is currently trialing a redesigned, strength-based planning process (using the new I-CAN v6 assessment tool). This is in preparation for a full national rollout slated for April 2027.
