My top 5 horror movies as a massage therapist 👇
• “I didn’t tell you about my medical history when I booked.”
I don't need to know absolutely everything about your medical history, but I do need to know any pertinent history that could affect your treatment. Things like recent surgeries, injuries, fractures, significant medical conditions or anything you're currently being treated for can change how I approach your massage. It just helps me make sure your treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
• “I want the deepest pressure you can possibly do.”
I completely understand wanting a good, deep massage, but deeper isn't always better. The right pressure is the pressure your body can actually respond to. If you're tensing, holding your breath or bracing against the treatment, we might actually be working against the body rather than helping it relax.
• "I've been in severe pain for 3 months, but I haven't seen anyone about it.”
I know massage can feel like the easiest place to start, but if you've been experiencing severe or ongoing pain, it's really important to get it properly assessed. Massage can absolutely be part of managing pain, but sometimes there is something else going on that needs to be investigated first. I would always rather refer you on when needed than just keep treating the same symptom without knowing why it's there.
• “I'm sick, but I really didn't want to cancel my massage.”
I know you might have been looking forward to your appointment, especially if you're feeling uncomfortable and just want some relief. But if you're sick, please don't feel bad about rescheduling. Massage is close contact, and I want to keep you, myself and my other clients well. We'll always find another time for your appointment.
• “I'm pregnant… I just forgot to mention it.”
Pregnancy doesn't mean you can't have a massage, but it does mean I may need to change how I treat you. Your positioning, comfort, pressure and the techniques I use may all need to be adjusted depending on where you're at in your pregnancy. Just let me know beforehand so I can make sure your treatment is comfortable, appropriate and tailored to you.
The more we know, the better we can tailor your treatment safely 💚
