Breaking NDIS news…

The Minister for the NDIS Linda Reynolds has just released a new version of the NDIS Act - the legislation (law) behind the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

The version released today is an ‘exposure draft’. That means it’s a draft copy that everyone can look at over the next 4 weeks.

And during the next 4 weeks, anyone who wants to can have their say.

After that, the Department of Social Services (DSS) and the NDIS Minister will look at everyone's feedback and make some changes to it. Then around the end of October the Minister will take it into Parliament for the federal Senators and MPs to vote on.

There’s a lot to unravel here - legislation is very long, and very technical.

But we will have a good look now and let you know what we find - stay tuned.

For now, we can tell you we have heard that the legislation does:
✊ NOT contain any changes to 'Reasonable and necessary'
✊ NOT contain anything about independent assessments

And that's only because all of you spoke up and made a ton of noise!

📌 Stay tuned for more from us - but in the meantime you can find all of the info from the DSS Engage website https://engage.dss.gov.au/proposed-ndis-legislative-improvements-and-the-participant-service-guarantee/

Check out the app 'Kynd', which matches NDIS participants with carers' profiles and connects with people of shared interests and desired skills.

A "match-up" app is giving NDIS participants, the elderly and their families greater choice and flexibility when it comes to how they are cared for.

"Oh - this isn't something I'd change," actor Wentworth Miller wrote on Instagram. "No. I get - got - immediately being autistic is central to who I am. To everything I've achieved/articulated."

An important read before the commencement of the new academic year (March the 1st).

Studying at university or TAFE is very different from high school. You are expected to do more for yourself and there is less structure and less follow- up from teachers. As a tertiary student, you have to learn to become more independent in your studies.
