🟠 Allergy Week: Let’s Keep Kids Safe Around Food 🟠
As dietitians, we don’t just talk about nutrition — we also help keep children safe when it comes to food.
Food allergies can be life-threatening, and even a small exposure can cause a serious reaction.
👉 In Australia, around 1 in 10 infants develop a food allergy — so it’s more common than many think.
Before hosting a party or offering food to young kids, ask:
❓ “Does your child have any food allergies or intolerances?”
❓ “What foods do we need to avoid?” (e.g. nuts, egg, dairy, sesame)
❓ “What does their reaction look like?”
❓ “Do they carry an EpiPen or allergy plan?”
💡 Practical Tips for Safer Hosting:
✔️ Keep food labels or packaging available
✔️ Avoid mixing serving utensils between dishes
✔️ Consider a “nut-free” or allergen-aware table
✔️ When unsure — don’t offer the food
💬 Dietitian Tip:
It’s always okay to double-check with parents — it shows care, not inconvenience.
Creating a safe food environment allows all kids to enjoy the moment 💛
