Big changes are happening in ADHD care across Queensland. Under new reforms, specialist GPs can now help diagnose and treat ADHD in adults — making care more accessible, affordable and closer to home for many patients.
What this could mean for patients:
• Shorter wait times for assessment and support
• Reduced costs compared to specialist-only pathways
• Better access to care in regional and rural areas
• Ongoing support from your regular GP
Previously, many Australians faced long waitlists and high out-of-pocket costs to access ADHD diagnosis and treatment. These reforms aim to improve continuity of care and make support easier to access.
While not every GP will offer ADHD assessment or treatment straight away, many are undertaking additional training and expanding services to better support patients.
Early support and appropriate treatment can make a significant difference in daily life, education, work and wellbeing.
