Ever wondered why you might find one of our sessions happening outside instead of inside the clinic?

Outdoor spaces offer children something a clinic room can't quite match: uneven ground, real weather, movement in every direction, and the calming presence of our therapy animals close by.

Research into nature-based paediatric OT is still a growing field, but what we see in session and what the emerging evidence points to lines up. Time outdoors can support:
Core strength and postural stability, from balancing on uneven ground
Sensory regulation, through fresh air, movement and calmer surroundings
Motor planning and problem-solving, navigating natural obstacles
Social engagement, working and playing alongside others in an open space

Every outdoor moment works toward something bigger: a child who feels steadier in their body, calmer in their nervous system, and more ready to take on the next challenge, including getting "prep ready."

Nature isn't the backdrop to therapy here. It's part of it.
Growing outside. Growing within.

Today is World PT Day!

The theme for this year’s World PT Day is the role of physiotherapy and physical activity in the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

We also want to thank Emily for all the amazing work she does here at HCT for all of our clients.

✨Toe walking activity ideas ✨

PART 2

One of the many conditions we treat is toe walking! Children may toe walk due to a variety of reasons and physios will adapt their treatment approach depending on the root cause and the individual child 🚶🏽‍♂️👣

In this video, our physio Em demonstrates 6 easy home activities for toe walkers.

These activities work to improve:
🦵🏼Ankle range of motion and calf flexibility
💪🏼 Strength imbalances (weak hip flexors, glutes, core and ankles)
🧠 Motor patterning and gait re-training
🤸🏻‍♀️ Balance and proprioception
🫧 Sensory input under the heels

Want to see how we can help your child with toe walking and motor skills? Book an assessment with one of our paediatric PTs or OTs today - via link in our bio or call 0412 876 198

On Friday we went out to Mountview Alpaca Farm for a team picnic and Alpaca walk. (Unfortunately Katie couldn't join us)

Safe to say we will be sticking with horses and not Alpaca's!

We had a lot of laughs and a fantastic day.
