Does your baby always seem to look to the same side? 👀

A consistent head-turning preference can sometimes be linked with torticollis and may contribute to plagiocephaly (a flat spot on the head).

A few things we look at as paediatric physios:
✨ Does baby comfortably turn their head both ways?
✨ Do they tend to sleep or play facing the same direction?
✨ Is there a noticeable flat spot or change in head shape?
✨ Do they dislike tummy time or seem less comfortable turning one way?

The good news? There are lots of simple ways to support movement variety, positioning and development and getting advice early can make things much easier.

If you’re noticing a strong preference or changes in your baby’s head shape, it’s worth having it assessed rather than simply waiting to see if it resolves.

“I’ll just push through it.”

Sometimes soreness settles with time. But when pain keeps returning, affects sleep, stops you from exercising or makes everyday movement harder, it may be worth asking why.

Seeing a physiotherapist does not automatically mean scans, lengthy treatment or stopping everything you enjoy.

Sometimes you simply need reassurance and a clear plan. Other times, addressing the problem early can help you rebuild strength, move with confidence and prevent symptoms from continuing to interfere with your life.

Pain is not always a sign of serious damage… but it is information worth understanding.

If something does not feel right, you do not need to wait until it becomes severe before asking for guidance.

“Let’s wait and see” can feel reassuring… but parents should not feel they need to wait until a concern becomes significant before asking for support.

An early physiotherapy assessment does not automatically mean something is wrong, and it does not mean therapy will always be required.

Sometimes the outcome is reassurance and a few simple ideas to try at home. Other times, identifying a challenge early allows us to provide targeted support during an important stage of development.

You know your child best. If something about their movement or development does not feel right, it is okay to ask questions.

👀 One of the best developmental toys for your baby… is already in your home.

One of the simplest ways to encourage your baby’s development is by giving them time to explore against a wall or in front of a mirror.

Perfect for little ones who are confidently pulling to stand and exploring the world from a new perspective. 🧡

You don’t need fancy equipment, just a safe space and your interaction. 🧑‍🍼

Remember, every baby develops at their own pace. Follow your little one’s cues, keep it fun, and enjoy those smiles when they spot themselves in the mirror! 🌞

There is so much pressure on new parents to “do everything right.”

The reality? Your baby doesn’t need perfect. They need connection, opportunities to move, and loving people who respond to their cues. 🤍

As physiotherapists with special interest in paediatrics, we spend a lot of time reassuring families that everyday moments matter most. Tummy time, cuddles, floor play, carrying, talking and simply being together all help support your baby’s development.

If you’re ever unsure whether your little one is on track, you don’t have to wait until something feels “serious.” Sometimes reassurance is exactly what parents need.

What’s one thing you wish someone had told you when you became a parent? We’d love to hear it below. 👇
