Many people hesitate to ask their support worker to change how things are done because they do not realize they have the right to ask.
It is easy to feel like you have to adapt to whoever walks through your door. But real support is about walking alongside you on your own terms. You are in control of your routine, your communication, and who you invite into your space.
If you are unsure where the boundaries lie, here are a few things you are always allowed to say:
>> "Can we slow down? I am not ready for that step yet."
>> "Can you explain what we are doing today and why?"
>> "I would like to try a different routine this week."
>> "What does my NDIS funding actually cover for this support?"
You are also allowed to ask for a change in how we communicate, whether you need professional direction or just a quiet chat and a listening ear. If a match does not feel right, you can absolutely request a different support worker.
We build our team around this standard of personal choice. Your comfort and your peace of mind are what matter most π
