Camila and Toni prepared our fun Sensory Wall and Floor Tiles for the Expo, and they are out at the booth today. Here is the lovely thing about them. You don't need fancy equipment at home. You don't need to spend a fortune. We all know how it goes: you buy the most expensive toy on the shelf, and the kids end up in a giant cardboard box, captaining a pirate ship, blasting into space, or defending a fairytale castle.
That instinct children have, to climb, squeeze, push, press, and explore, is part of how they learn about their bodies and the world around them.
Sensory tiles tap into that. Different textures, different surfaces, different pressures. Children can run their hands across them, push their feet into them, lean into a wall and feel something firm pressing back.
What sensory tiles offer:
π§ An opportunity to build body awareness through different textures under hands and feet.
πΏ A space for calm, quiet exploration. Many children enjoy firm, predictable touch.
β¨ Something interesting to notice, which invites curiosity and engagement.
π€ A shared moment. Sitting together, exploring tiles, chatting about what feels rough, smooth, bumpy, or cool.
You might use them as part of a quiet corner at home, a movement break during homework, or simply as a play space.
Come and have a feel for yourself. We are at the Expo today and tomorrow, and we would love to chat about paediatric occupational therapy too while you are there.
