One of the most important lessons I have learned through years of studying nutrition and helping people improve their health is this:
Taking care of yourself is never something you need to apologise for.
We often act as though we have to choose between enjoying life and looking after our health. But that is a false choice.
Connection is important. The people in your life matter. The meals you share, the conversations that go on for hours, the laughter, the memories, all of that nourishes us too.
But so does sleep.
So does movement.
So does the food you put into your body every day.
You can enjoy dinner with friends without abandoning your health goals. You can make choices that support your wellbeing without feeling guilty or needing to explain yourself to anyone.
The people who truly care about you will not remember what was on your plate or what was in your glass. They will remember your presence, your kindness, your laughter, and the way you made them feel.
This is one of the core messages behind my book, Eat Like You Matter.
Because looking after your health is not about perfection, restriction, or missing out on life.
It is about valuing yourself enough to make choices that support the life you want to live.
Take care of your body. Spend time with the people you love. Do both without guilt.
Eat like you matter.
Because you do.
