Behaviour can tell us a lot when we take the time to look a little deeper 🌱

What we see on the outside may be connected to overwhelm, communication difficulties, discomfort, uncertainty, a need for connection, or something else entirely.

Instead of focusing only on how to stop a behaviour, we can get curious about what may be happening underneath it and what support might actually help.

Understanding the why can lead to more compassionate, person-centred support 💚

When a child repeats themselves, there may be more going on than we can see 💬

Repetition can happen for lots of different reasons. A child might be seeking reassurance, needing more processing time, feeling unsure, trying to connect, expressing excitement or communicating something that feels important to them.

Rather than focusing only on stopping the repetition, it can help to get curious about what might be sitting underneath it.

Sometimes the question isn’t just “Why are they repeating themselves?” but “What are they trying to communicate or get support with?” 🌱

Behaviour is often only the part we can see.

Behind it, there may be unmet needs, overwhelm, communication differences, sensory sensitivities, past experiences or something else entirely.

Taking the time to look beyond what we see can help us better understand what someone may be experiencing and support them in a way that feels more meaningful, individualised and person-centred 💚

Helping kids understand neurodiversity is really about helping them understand people 💚

Some people communicate differently. Some experience sounds, textures or emotions more strongly. Some need more movement, more quiet, more time or a different kind of support.

When we teach kids that differences aren’t something to fear or “fix,” we create more space for curiosity, empathy and inclusion 🌱

These are a few simple ways to start that conversation.

Play can tell us a lot 💚

It can show us what someone enjoys, what helps them feel comfortable, how they prefer to communicate and what they might be finding difficult.

That’s why play can be such a valuable part of building connection and understanding - especially when we follow the person’s lead rather than trying to direct every moment.

There’s often a lot happening beneath the surface of something that looks “just like play” 🌱

Regulation doesn’t always happen instantly 🌱

When the nervous system is overwhelmed, the pathway back to calm can move through alarm, release, connection and restoration.

Rather than rushing someone to “calm down,” we can focus on creating safety and offering the support their nervous system needs in that moment. 💚
