Not everything is within our control and that can feel frustrating, overwhelming, or even exhausting at times. 🤍

But when we shift our focus towards the things we can influence, we create more space for self-compassion, regulation, and wellbeing.

🌿 Setting boundaries
🌿 Asking for help when needed
🌿 Creating environments that support us
🌿 Taking sensory breaks
🌿 Giving ourselves permission to rest

Small actions can make a meaningful difference.

Which of the things in your control are you focusing on this week? 💚

What is an FCA report? 🌿

An FCA (Functional Capacity Assessment) is a comprehensive assessment completed by an Occupational Therapist to better understand a person's strengths, challenges, daily functioning, and support needs.

The information gathered can help inform recommendations for supports, services, assistive technology, home modifications, and future NDIS funding.

If you are looking for an FCA report or would like to learn more about the process, our Occupational Therapist Stan would love to support you.

Head to our website to book an appointment or get in touch with our team!

Routines are about so much more than knowing what comes next 💙

For many individuals, predictable routines can create a sense of safety, reduce uncertainty and support emotional regulation throughout the day.

When we know what to expect, the world can feel a little more manageable.

This doesn't mean routines need to be rigid. Flexible, person-centred routines can provide structure while still allowing space for choice, autonomy and individual needs.

✨ Small moments of predictability can have a big impact on wellbeing.

Behaviour management and emotional regulation are often treated as the same thing - but they are very different.

Behaviour management focuses on changing what we can see.

Emotional regulation focuses on understanding what is happening underneath the behaviour.

When a child is overwhelmed, dysregulated or struggling to cope, consequences and corrections may address the behaviour in the moment, but they don't always address the underlying need.

A regulation-focused approach asks:

✨ What is this behaviour communicating?
✨ What support does this person need right now?
✨ How can we help them feel safe enough to regulate?

This doesn't mean removing boundaries or expectations. It means recognising that connection, understanding, and co-regulation create the foundation for learning, problem-solving and positive behaviour change.

Because behaviour is communication and regulation comes before reasoning. 🤍

When we feel overwhelmed, it can be helpful to pause and reconnect with the things that help us feel calm, safe, and regulated. 🤍

Regulation looks different for everyone, and often it's the small, simple moments throughout the day that can make the biggest difference.

Taking time to notice what our nervous system might need and responding with compassion can be a powerful act of self-care. 🌿

The science of co-regulation 🌿

Before a person can regulate themselves, they first need to experience regulation with someone else.

A calm, safe, and responsive relationship helps support the nervous system, creating the foundation for emotional regulation, learning, and growth.

For many neurodivergent individuals, co-regulation is not a bonus - it is a fundamental need.

✨ Connection before correction.

The language we use matters 🌿

Words have the power to shape how people feel seen, supported and understood. Neuroaffirming language encourages compassion, curiosity and connection - moving away from shame, judgement and compliance-focused approaches.

Small language shifts can help create environments where people feel safer to communicate, regulate and exist authentically 🤍
