Have you checked what's in your preconception multi?

A quality preconception multi should do more than simply “tick a box.”

Nutrient forms, dosing and individual needs all matter when preparing for pregnancy, which is why the quality and combination of ingredients in your preconception multi matter. 🥚

Some key nutrients we review in clinic include:
~ Folinic Acid/Activated folate
~ Iodine
~ Selenium
~ Choline
~ Zinc
~ B vitamins
~ Vitamin D
~ Iron, where clinically appropriate

One nutrient that’s commonly under-dosed in over-the-counter options is iodine. Many products contain around 100mcg, however preconception and pregnancy requirements are often higher, which is why dosing should be reviewed properly by a professional rather than assumed.

Choline is another important nutrient that is frequently overlooked. It plays a key role in early development and pregnancy nutrition, yet many prenatals contain very little, if any at all.

Choosing a preconception supplement should always be considered alongside your diet, health history, pathology and individual needs so that it works for you and you actually get the nutrients you need. 🌷

Irregular or missing periods are often quickly labelled as PCOS, but that’s not always the full story.

Hormone symptoms can have many different drivers, and understanding the root cause can lead us to what is really happening for you.

In clinic, we consider many reasons why ovulation and cycle irregularity occur, including thyroid dysfunction, stress, nutrient deficiencies, post-pill changes, high prolactin and hypothalamic amenorrhea.

Sometimes the body is responding to under-fuelling, nervous system overload, over-exercising or major life stress rather than a condition like PMOS alone.

This is why we encourage proper testing and investigation so that we can look at your symptoms with context and factual data.

Your hormones don't work alone; they impact multiple systems in the body, and symptoms can reflect what is happening across the whole body, not just one part or system.

At Sage Naturopathics, we want you to leave feeling more informed and supported in your health journey, with individualised care as our core focus.

Being told “everything looks normal” on your bloods when you know something feels off can be deeply frustrating 😰

Unfortunately, this is something we hear all the time in clinic, which is hard when we know hormone symptoms are rarely random, and you don’t need to have all the answers before seeking support.

To start, we get you to start tracking patterns in your cycle, energy, skin, digestion, mood and symptoms, which can give important clues about what your body is trying to communicate.

Sometimes it’s not about finding one “perfect” test, but looking at the bigger picture and connecting the dots over time.

At Sage Naturopathics, we take the time to explore the full picture so you feel heard, supported and informed in your health journey.

We'll see you in the clinic 🌸

I have PMOS. How do I know if I'm inflamed? 🤔A common question I see in clinical practice...

Inflammation can show up in ways that feel vague, frustrating or easy to dismiss, especially with PMOS.

Fatigue that lingers, brain fog, skin flare-ups, puffiness or feeling like your body just isn’t bouncing back can all be clues that something deeper is going on beneath the surface.

While these symptoms don’t confirm inflammation on their own, they can point towards underlying drivers like insulin resistance, gut dysfunction, chronic stress, poor sleep, nutrient deficiencies or hormonal imbalance. 😥

In clinic, we view this as your body communicating with you. It’s a good thing! It tells us where we should focus our attention, ensuring a personalised approach to your treatment plan.

We need to focus on targeted and realistic strategies that are maintainable and achievable for the best results.

What we eat before conception may matter more than many people realise...

A recent 2026 Human Reproduction study found that higher ultra-processed food intake in men was associated with lower chance of conception, while higher intake in women was associated with smaller embryonic growth and yolk sac volume in early pregnancy.

This does not mean fertility comes down to one food or one factor, and it does not mean perfection is required.

But it is a helpful reminder that preconception care should look at the bigger picture - including nutrition, and including both partners.

The study was observational, so it shows associations rather than proving cause and effect.

If you are trying to conceive, this is one more reason to focus on nourishing the foundations before pregnancy.

📣PCOS has had a long awaited name change!

Introducing:

🤍 PMOS

Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome

The focus has been wrong for too long. And the former name, PCOS, never truely reflected the complexities of the hormonal and metabolic and whole body condition.

Awesome progress! Helping better management for the future. 🤎

Before I became a naturopath, I spent years as a registered IVF nurse - and what I witnessed in those rooms changed me forever.

The resilience of patients walking one of life's most emotionally demanding paths.
The quiet strength it takes to keep going, cycle after cycle.
And the nurses who showed up for them, every single day, with steadiness and heart.

That experience didn't just shape my clinical lens - it deepened my commitment to whole-person care.

To truly seeing the person in front of me, not just the presenting complaint.

Today, on International Nurses Day, I want to honour every nurse doing that work.

You are the backbone of healthcare, and the world is better for it. 🤍

Want to support your gut microbiome? Probiotic foods can be a simple place to start ⬇️

Think...
~ yoghurt with live cultures
~ kefir
~ sauerkraut
~ kimchi
~ miso
~ tempeh
~ kombucha
~ traditional buttermilk
~ naturally fermented pickled cucumbers.

These foods can help support a healthy gut environment and microbial diversity.

A little note though: if you are sensitive to histamine, fermented foods may not always be the best fit for you.

Gut health is never one-size-fits-all 🤍

Have you considered your thyroid for fertility? 🦋

Thyroid health is one of the first things we look at in a fertility consult, yet many people have either never had it properly assessed or have only had TSH tested.

Your thyroid can influence menstrual cycles, ovulation, fertility, and early pregnancy health. Thyroid autoantibodies may also be relevant, particularly in the context of pregnancy loss.

This is why a more thorough assessment is often important.

Depending on the individual, this may include TSH, free T4, free T3 and thyroid antibodies. A “normal” TSH does not always tell the full story.

Fertility is about looking at the bigger picture, and thyroid health is often one piece worth exploring.

Share this with someone trying to conceive who may not have had their thyroid properly checked.

The embryo looked good.
You felt hopeful.
But the IVF cycle didn’t work.

When an IVF cycle does not go to plan, it can be deeply disappointing - especially when things looked promising.

While embryo quality is an important part of the picture, it is not the whole picture.
Endometrial health and endometrial readiness may also play an important role in implantation and are sometimes worth exploring further.

This is something we consider in consults at Sage Naturopathics as part of a broader, individualised approach to fertility care.

If you have experienced a failed IVF cycle and are looking for more answers, this may be one area to explore.
