One of the biggest misconceptions in pregnancy is thinking a "high-risk" NIPT result is a diagnosis.

It isn't.

The NIPT is a screening test. It tells us about the likelihood of certain chromosomal conditions, not whether your baby definitely has one.

For some families, further testing feels right. For others, it doesn't.

The important part is understanding what your result actually means before making any decisions.

Hyperemesis Gravidarum isn't "bad morning sickness."

For some women, it means vomiting 20 to 30 times a day, struggling to keep food or fluids down, and in some cases, living with symptoms right up until the day they give birth.

It's a condition that can completely take over a pregnancy, yet it's still widely misunderstood and often poorly managed.

The more we talk about Hyperemesis, the more women can recognise the signs early and access the support they deserve.

One in four women won’t make it past 12 weeks of pregnancy, yet miscarriage is still something so many people suffer through quietly.

After one completely healthy pregnancy, I went into my second expecting everything to be fine. At eight weeks, the baby had a heartbeat. At the 12-week scan, it didn’t.

There was no warning and no explanation.

Four months later, I conceived again and went on to have a perfectly healthy pregnancy.

Pregnancy loss is far more common than people realise, and no woman should have to go through it feeling alone.

Seven decisions. One hour. No warning.

That's what most parents walk into after birth.

✔️You planned the labour.
✔️You packed the bag.
✔️You wrote the birth preferences.

But if you're trying to navigate the system alone (without a private midwife)... more often than not, no one sits you down and explains the choices that come at you the moment your baby arrives.

So what exactly are they?

1. Skin-to-skin.
2. Delayed cord clamping.
3. Who cuts the cord?
4. Newborn medications.
5. Breastfeeding support in the golden hour.
6. Weights and measures.
7. What happens to your placenta?

Seven decisions. Often within sixty minutes. While you're shaking, emotional, and running on nothing. 🤍

The birth plan isn't just about the birth.

It's about the hour after, when you're least able to think clearly but most likely to be asked.

Without a private midwife and the benefit of continuity and in-depth private care in a public system, you and your partner need to:

🤍 Talk each one through before labour.
🤍 Decide who speaks for you.
🤍 Know what you'd say yes to and what you'd want more time on.
🤍 Write your preferences down and give them to hospital staff on shift.
🤍 Make a plan for advocating and dealing with pushback.
🤍 Get across hospital policy and protocol that may not align with your birth preferences.

Have questions? Ask us in the meantime. 🤍

Send this to someone preparing for birth.

This is the number one breathing technique we teach all our expecting mothers.

Most people skip it until labor starts, then wish they’d learned it sooner.

It’s simple, but it flips your body from fight-or-flight to calm.

✔️ That means fewer adrenaline spikes.
✔️ Easier rests between contractions.
✔️ It nudges your parasympathetic system (the part that says you’re safe).

Ready for it?

Close your eyes.

1. Breathe in for 4.
2. Breathe out for 7.
3. Soften your jaw.
4. Drop your shoulders.

Repeat in the quiet space between surges.

The goal isn’t to be “zen.”

It’s to train your nervous system now so birth feels familiar later.

The risk isn’t the contraction. It’s letting stress run the show. Practice 1–2 minutes, daily.

On the couch. In the car. At your midwifery appointments.

Teach your partner the count so they can pace you when it gets intense.

Save this if you’re preparing for birth.

This was wholesome 🤍

Quick snap of a few of our hypnobirthers.

Thanks to so many of our beautiful couples for coming out (in person and online) to put in the work to get the birth you desire!

This kind of prep goes a long way. x

And yet I'll still do it again tomorrow, the day after, and the day after that...🤍🤍
