🧔 Create the life you want to step into. 🧔

Today we used fabric markers from Kmart to customise our white canvas shoes.
Recovering from stroke can be tough, so we try to create goals that include fun and creativity.

Compartmentalising isn’t about avoiding emotions—it’s about creating enough space to manage them.

In art therapy, we often explore the difference between parking emotions and burying them. Healthy compartmentalising allows us to stay present with what needs our attention now, while trusting we’ll return to process what we’ve set aside.

Creative expression offers that return point. Through image-making, colour, and reflection, art therapy provides a safe space to unpack what has been compartmentalised before it becomes emotional overload.

The goal isn’t to suppress emotions—it’s to hold them with intention, allowing us to move through life’s many roles with greater clarity, resilience, and self-awareness.

When nature becomes the boardroom.

Recently, I had the privilege of facilitating a Land workshop for Social Agility as part of their Legacy Leadership program at Elements of Byron.

We began by slowing down.

Through grounding and presence-based art therapy practices, participants shifted from the pace of leadership into a space of reflection, curiosity and awareness. Because how we lead others begins with how we lead ourselves.

Inspired by the local Indigenous totems—the brush turkey, pied oystercatcher and sea eagle—we explored resilience, perspective, groundedness and our place within something greater than ourselves.

Then we stepped onto the beach.

Together, we created a spiral in the sand—an ancient symbol of the inward and outward journey—and reflected:

• What am I ready to leave behind?
• What am I choosing to carry forward?

Surrounded by the ocean, the lighthouse and an ever-changing sky, nature became both teacher and metaphor.

This is the power of combining art therapy, creativity and the natural environment. Insight becomes embodied, creating space to reconnect with our values and return with greater clarity, presence and intention.

Thank you to Social Agility for inviting me to be part of your Legacy Leadership journey.

Sometimes the most meaningful leadership conversations begin where there is space to pause, reflect and remember what matters most.

The Heart of Art Therapy Is Within The Human Connection.

In a world increasingly turning to apps, algorithms, and quick fixes, it’s worth remembering that healing has always happened in relationship.

Art therapy is far more than making something beautiful. It is the experience of being witnessed while giving form to thoughts, emotions, and experiences that words alone often cannot reach.

The art becomes a bridge.

A brushstroke can hold grief.
A piece of clay can carry anger.
A collage can reveal hope before we can name it.

But what transforms the process isn’t simply the materials. It’s the human-to-human connection.

To create in the presence of someone who is attuned, compassionate, and able to sit alongside your experience without judgement is profoundly restorative. Neuroscience continues to show us that safe relationships help regulate the nervous system, rebuild trust, and support emotional integration. Art provides another pathway into that process.

When creativity and connection come together, something powerful happens.

We begin to make sense of our experiences.
We discover new perspectives.
We reconnect with parts of ourselves that may have felt lost or silenced.

The artwork is important.
The process is transformative.
But the relationship is often where repair begins.

Because sometimes what we need most isn’t someone to fix us.
It’s someone willing to sit beside us while we discover our own capacity to heal.

That is the heart of art therapy.

When we truly sit with the feelings and allow them to be expressed. As we meet our needs moment by moment, trusting the process and being with what is until it isn’t anymore. We can express grief, shame, anger, even rage without hurting ourselves or others. Putting it down on the paper using the right materials and then cathartically ripping it up can be such sweet release.

After all …we were never meant to hold it all inside.
If you’re carrying a lot and need somewhere safe to express and process, please reach out. I have individual sessions and group offerings you are welcome to attend.
Go Gently,
Anna

I’ve been called to create this space and time for those who are carrying or feeling so much right now.
For those who may feel stuck in life, frustrated, grieving, or a myriad of things, I welcome you here. To those of you who are surviving moments, days, or weeks of an overloaded system, reaching for your old tools and patterns of… caffeine, shopping, scrolling, alcohol, eating, etc., just to get through the week, this space is for you.

My intention is to show you how to process these feelings and release them in a different way.
I’d like to offer you a space where you feel held and seen as you are guided through creative expression to *Release* *Acknowledge* *Realign*.
No art experience needed- the gift is in the process.
DM me for further details if you’re interested, numbers are limited.
Go gently
Anna xx
