I was trying to save time after the kids sports & activities in the afternoon, I was attempting to save $$$ on the ever growing food budget & I've learned my lesson the uncomfortable way.
I know that I shouldn't eat gluten as I have Hashimoto's, but I haven't had a flare up for a long time, so I was a little complacent & pushed the beige food boundaries. I guess we all need a reminder from time to time that how we are fuelling our bodies really does matter.
Back to the good stuff again, because feeling like rubbish is no more convenient than taking the time to cook a good meal.

When you’re told that you have gestational diabetes, it’s generally just discussed as a random condition of pregnancy. But in our current health climate, so many women are likely to have been metabolically vulnerable before they got pregnant without even knowing it.

During pregnancy there’s an increased metabolic demand on the body to support the growing baby, so if you were already hyperinsulinaemic or insulin resistant, there’s an added strain on the body systems that are trying to regulate your blood glucose levels and hormones.

If you’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetes in the past, or would like to reduce your risk of getting gestational diabetes in future pregnancies, then send me a DM!

YOU DON’T HAVE TO WAIT FOR WEIGHT LOSS TO IMPROVE INSULIN SENSITIVITY…

…because your metabolism can start responding within hours to days after putting some very simple interventions or habit changes in place.

• Within hours: Walking after meals can increase glucose uptake by your muscles.
• Within days: Reducing sugar, refined carbs and ultra-processed foods can reduce insulin demand.
• Within days: Fewer eating occasions can give insulin more time to reduce.
• Within days to weeks: Resistance training can improve glucose handling and insulin sensitivity.
• Within weeks: Better sleep, lower insulin levels and improved metabolic flexibility can start shifting the bigger picture.

And yes, weight loss can be an important part of improving metabolic health, particularly reducing visceral and liver fat.

But you don’t necessarily need to lose weight ‘first’ to start improving the physiology that makes weight loss difficult.

Improving your metabolic environment, means weight loss can become easier.

Because obesity is not simply a problem of eating too much or not having enough willpower!

When you start improving insulin sensitivity, positive changes can happen really quickly…

• Less hunger and fewer cravings
• More stable energy throughout the day
• Less afternoon energy slumps
• Better mental clarity and focus
• Feeling satisfied for longer between meals
• Less bloating and digestive discomfort
• More stable moods
• Better sleep

Some changes can appear within days, while deeper improvements in insulin sensitivity can develop over the following weeks.

You may feel the difference before you see any movement on the scales.
