Many plastics contain chemicals that can act as xenoestrogens or ENDOCRINE DISRUPTING CHEMICALS (EDCS)

A Xenoestrogen is a foreign chemical that can bind to or influence oestrogen receptors, mimicking or interfering with the body's natural estrogen signalling.

EDC's are linked to obesity, Infertility, metabolic disease and Cancer.

Practical ways to reduce exposure:

❤️ Use glass or stainless steel for food and drink whenever possible.

❤️Avoid heating food in plastic containers.

❤️Don't leave plastic water bottles in hot cars.

❤️Reduce consumption of ultra-processed foods, which often have more contact with plastic packaging

❤️Choose fragrance-free personal care products when possible (many fragrances contain phthalates).

❤️Minimise receipt handling.

❤️Vacuum regularly with a HEPA filter to reduce indoor plastic dust.

❤️Support normal detoxification pathways

Soy Isoflavones are estrogen modulators.

In a low estrogenic state such as menopause, soy isoflavones may provide a mild estrogen effect by activating estrogen receptors

In high estrogen states such as perimenopause, they compete with the body's stronger estrogen for receptor bind8ng, potentially reducing overall estrogenic stimulation.

Fermented soy food increases bioavailability example Natto, Miso, Tempeh

Dose matters.

Studies use doses from 30 - 180mg day

Firm tofu 150gm = 35- 45 mg
Tempeh 100gm = 35-45mg
Soy milk 250ml = 20-30mg
Edamame 150gm = 30-40mg
Miso 1tbsp = 5-8 mg
Natto 50gm = 35-45mg

Time to start including soy foods into your diet ❤️

Twenty years ago the Women's Health Initative (WHI), a landmark study linked one form of HRT (oral conjugated equine estrogen plus progestin) to an increased risk of breast cancer.

Like many women - and many health practitioners- i became cautious about estrogen and even questioned whether soy foods were safe.

This weekend I immersed myself in the latest menopause research, and it's remarkable how much our understanding has evolved.

We're learning that estrogen isnt simply a reproductive hormone - it plays an important protective role throughout the body. In the right women, at the right time, and in the right form, it may help support healthy aging by protecting the heart, bones, brain, and metabolic health.

It was a powerful reminder that science continues to evolve, and so should we.

Think of your hormones as the gatekeepers of your health.

During our younger years, hormones help keep many of our bodies systems balanced. They influence inflammation, blood sugar balance, immune function, bone health, brain function, muscle maintenance and how we respond to stress.

As estrogen, progesterone and testosterone begin to decline during perimenopause and menopause, its like the gatekeepers step back and the flood gates can open.

This is when underlying vulnerabilities can become more noticeable. Depending on your genetics, medical history and lifestyle, you may start to see things like;

🌟weight gain or insulin resistance
🌟high cholesterol
🌟osteoporosis
🌟autoimmune conditions
🌟cardiovascular disease
🌟cognitive changes
🌟anxiety or depression
🌟joint pain & inflammation
🌟sleep disturbances

Lifestyle factors - including nutrition, exercise, sleep; stress management, environmental exposures and when appropriate hormones therapy - can all influence whether these genetic tendencies become expressed.

As your hormonal gatekeepers begin to step back, its the idea time to check what's behind the gates.

I often recommend DUTCH hormones tests to see how your body is metabolising hormones, detox pathways and stress management.

DNA testing may also be valuable to identify any weaknesses.

We can't change our genes, but we can understand them, address lifestyle factors that influence them to help prevent disease and support health aging

A much needed escape to Bali 🌸

Over the past week we explored Ubud, Jatiluwih, Nusa Penida & Nusa Lambongan. Each place had its own magic, but what i loved most was the contrast.

One minute you're navigating the chaos of busy streets, scooters and traffic, and the next you've stumbled across a quiet rice field or peaceful villa where it feels like the rest of the world has disappeared.

A highlight of the trip was diving with the Manta rays who were absent all week until our dive! Watching these gentle giants glide through the water was one of those moments that makes you stop and appreciate how incredible our world really is 💕

Feeling grateful for the adventure, the chance to slow down, and the reminder that sometimes stepping away from routine is exactly what you need.

I'm feeling refreshed, inspired and ready to step back into work tomorrow with fresh energy 🌸

Have you ever noticed that your pot plants seem to thrive when you put them outside during the rain compared to watering them from the tap?

Maybe that’s because tap water contains chemicals 🤔

One of the chemicals in tap water is FLUORIDE 💧

People are surprised when they test HIGH in fluoride on my in clinic heavy metal test, especially when they only drink filtered water - but unless you are filtering the whole house you are still getting daily exposure. 🚿

Fluoride may build up over time and block the absorption of IODINE in the Thyroid.

Your Thyroid controls your metabolism so if you’re feeling sluggish or putting on weight you might want to check thyroid AND iodine levels.

Fluoride may also contribute to calcification of your Pineal gland which is involved in intuition and sleep cycles. 🥱

You would never guess what helps to clear excess fluoride from your body!

Tamarind paste- sold at Asian supermarkets and used in curries. Using tamarind in your diet helps to detox fluoride.

We are exposed to more toxins today than ever before - and our brain feels it. 🧠

Heavy metals such as Mercury, Aluminium, Lead & toxins like Fluoride can accumulate in your body over time and may contribute to inflammation, oxidative stress, and calcification within the body - including the Pineal Gland.

The pineal gland is often referred to as the 3rd eye 👁️ because of its role in regulating our sleep wake cycles, circadian rhythm and melatonin production. Many people associate it with intuition, clarity, creativity and our connection to inner wisdom. ✨

When the body is overloaded with toxins, people often describe feeling;
🧠 mentally foggy
🧠 disconnected
🧠 emotionally flat
🧠 anxious or overwhelmed
🧠 unable to think clearly or trust themselves

What many people don’t realise is that heavy metals can be difficult for the body to clear once they accumulate. Detoxification is rarely a quick fix. It often requires consistent support over time to gently shift the burden from the body and support the nervous system, liver, gut, and cellular detoxification pathways.

Heavy metals may also accumulate across generations. Exposure can be passed from Mother to baby during pregnancy and breastfeeding meaning some children may begin life already carrying a toxic burden before ongoing environmental exposures are added in. 🧠

I’ve been testing heavy metal toxicity in clinic for over 15 years so have seen what works and what doesn’t. Don’t believe all the supplements or protocols that are advertised for detoxification! Test for targeted advice and protocols designed to support you or your child’s specific needs 💕

LOW ZINC - even when someone is already taking supplements; shows up a LOT in my clinic.

And this is where it gets interesting….

It’s often not that ‘you need more zinc’
Instead it shows an absorption problem

When I see this pattern, it tells me:
🍃 The gut isn’t absorbing nutrients properly
🍃 There may be underlying inflammation of dysbiosis
🍃 or the body isn’t utilising zinc efficiently

So what do I do differently?
Instead of just increasing the dose… I change the FORM of zinc.

One of the ways I do this is by using a TRANSDERMAL ZINC CREAM (applied to the feet at night)

🍃this bypasses the gut completely
🍃Helps gently build zinc levels
🍃Supports the body without stress to digestion

Why this matters…zinc is essential for;
✨Gut lining repair
✨Stomach acid production
✨Immune function
✨Hormone balance
✨Skin health

So when zinc is low, digestion and absorption can actually get worse over time

Testing is available in clinic 💚

Your body clears histamine through two main pathways.

DAO (diamine oxidase) works in the gut, breaking down histamine from food before it enters circulation.

HNMT works inside your cells, clearing histamine systemically - and this pathway relies directly on methylation.

When methylation isnt functioning well (for example if you have MTHFR variations) HNMT can't keep up.
This shifts more of the load onto DAO.

The problem is DAO is often already under pressure from;
Gut inflammation
SIBO
Alcohol
Certain medications and
Nutrient deficiencies like copper and B6 can all reduce DAO's activity.

So instead of having two balanced pathways, the body is left relying heavily on one that may already be compromised.

This is why many people don't improve long-term when they focus on lowering histamine exposure. If methylation isnt supported, the underlying clearance issue remains.

To truly support histamine balance, both pathways need to be considered not just what's coming in, but how the body is processing it.
DNA testing offers valuable insight into your unique biochemistry, helping us understand how your body responds and tailor targeted support
