I mentioned in one of my stories that the industry of yoga was creating the wrong idea about the practice. I had a lots of comments about that story and a lot of you resonated with it.
I felt the need to talk about asana here. So asana is the physical part of yoga and it’s a very important part in the process.
When we practice asana in the right way, it will take you deeper and it will help you move into the more subtle part of the practice. You will find this need to be more in silence, to find more stillness in life and to sit in meditation. Your life will automatically start to change.
The traditional process of yoga will start to unfold.
If you only practice asana as a way of exercising, then you get to a point (which I notice a lot of students do.. I see this all the time) now what? What is next? Why yoga is not giving me more? Why I keep coming back to the same patterns, etc), Or you could think that maybe other forms of exercising will be better for your body, your injury, or will be more fun than yoga or keep trying different ways to move your body that will keep you motivated…And then, you miss the opportunity to really experience this practice.
As a yoga teacher, I feel the need to tell you that if your yoga practice only consists of asana, or if it’s not offering you the preparation for deeper practices like breath and meditation, then you should be looking at understanding yoga better, maybe even looking for private classes with a teacher you trust, or talk to your teacher/studio and express your need to discover the path of yoga.
Practicing yoga as a way to stay fit, is like buying a smart phone to only make phone calls. 😝
