Homestead Residents to pay higher taxes ?

The City of Homestead is considering to raise your taxes to 6% , following a request from Police Chief Mario Knapp for five additional police officers.

At the same time, the proposed Homestead Police Department budget would reportedly increase by approximately $5 million compared with last year. The department is also receiving federal support related to its participation in the 287(g) immigration-enforcement agreement with ICE.

That raises an important question: Why should Homestead residents be asked to pay even more in taxes when the Police Department is already receiving a significant increase in funding and federal support?

Residents are struggling with higher grocery prices, rising rents, expensive gas, evictions and foreclosures. Many families are working harder just to stay afloat.

And while residents are being asked to tighten their belts, there are concerns about department spending including money being used to modify police seized vehicles for appearances at cop car shows and events.

Five additional officers should not automatically mean higher taxes. The City should first look for efficiencies, identify cuts or reallocations elsewhere in the budget, and fully account for available federal funding.

If the 287(g) agreement is providing additional funding to the department, then the City should explain exactly how much is being received, where that money is going, and whether those funds can offset the requested increase.

Homestead families should not have to choose between paying their taxes, filling up their gas tanks, buying groceries, or keeping a roof over their heads.

Meanwhile Chief Knapp and his brass he brought from Miami Dade all make over $200k and want a raise to continue gaslighting the constituents.

Before raising taxes on working families, City Hall needs to show residents where every dollar is going.

The Second Meeting to approve the budget is September 23, 2026 @ 5:00 pm at City Hall.

FORMER EXIT 1 SERGEANT ARRESTED FOLLOWING ALLEGED CYBER THREATS

A former Exit 1 sergeant and former mayoral candidate, Rocquel McCray, was reportedly arrested at the Exit 1 Denny’s following allegations involving cyber threats directed toward law enforcement, elected officials, and former political candidates.

According to reports, the incident stemmed from a video posted to McCray’s page. Near the end of the video, law enforcement appears to locate her and take her into custody. The video then ends.

During the livestream, McCray can reportedly be heard making statements asking officers to “unalive” her.

McCray, who previously ran for Mayor of Exit 1, has publicly blamed the former administration and current Police Chief Pedro Taylor for circumstances she says have contributed to her current hardships.

Let me be clear: Threats against law enforcement, elected officials, candidates, or anyone else are not acceptable.

At the same time, situations like this should remind us that mental health is a serious public-safety issue that deserves more attention from our state leaders. We need to look at affordable, accessible mental-health services and crisis intervention resources before situations reach this point.

Politics aside, this is about a human being who appears to be going through a serious crisis.

We pray that Rocquel McCray is safe, receives the appropriate medical and mental-health care, and that everyone involved remains safe.

According to Exit 1 reports, McCray was arrested and faces multiple felony charges. A parody video referencing McCray, accompanied by the Law & Order theme, was also circulating in connection with the incident.

Last Battle of Lucy Street ?

It’s the Battle of Lucy Street — a rivalry that brings together two communities, two proud football programs, and generations of families from South Dade and Homestead.

Both teams enter this season with new head coaches and both are looking for their first victory of the season. But when these two teams step onto the field, records don’t matter. Pride matters. Community matters. Our kids matter.

And this year, there is something bigger at stake.

With pending negotiations involving Harris Field and a private investor, there are questions about what public access and future community use of the field could look like. That means we have to ask ourselves:

Could this be the last Battle of Lucy Street at Harris Field?

Both teams are in different divisions.

We don’t know what the future holds. But we do know what Harris Field means to this community. It is part of Homestead’s history. It is a place where our children have made memories, families have gathered, and generations have come together.

Our kids deserve to have that opportunity in the future.

So if you have a child playing tonight, bring the family.

If you grew up watching these games, come back.

If you care about our community and preserving the traditions that make Homestead special, show up.

Let’s fill Harris Field.

BREAKING: Florida City City Manager Fired — Effective Immediately 🚨

We are hearing reports that the Florida City Commission has voted to fire City Manager James Poag, effective immediately.

Shortly after the vote, reports indicate that the commissioners were escorted out by law enforcement.

Effective immediately, City Manager Poag is no longer the City Manager of Exit One.

This is a developing story, and we will continue to follow the situation as more information becomes available.

Accident involving an Exit 1 City Vehicle and pedestrian with close ties to a very well known fruit shop “Tutis Fruities”

According to sources familiar with the incident, Darin Baldwin was involved in an accident on the Florida Turnpike one afternoon in July involving a pedestrian.

Sources say that Darin was on the clock and operating a City vehicle when he observed an individual on the Turnpike. According to the information provided, the pedestrian appeared to be looking downward and, at the last moment, moved into the vehicle’s path.

The pedestrian was struck and reportedly sustained a laceration to the leg. Law enforcement responded to the scene, and according to sources, the pedestrian received a citation for jaywalking on the Turnpike.

Darin Baldwin has reportedly been cleared in connection with the incident. Sources further state that Darin was drug tested and the results came back negative.

Based on the information currently available from sources, there is no evidence that the City is responsible for the incident or that there has been any cover-up. Sources also indicate that Darin has no current issues involving the City Manager Poag or the Florida City Commission.

Things are not looking good for the City Manager of Exit1.

Aside from a very adverse background, questionable hiring of old colleagues, poor infrastructure planning and FCPD on a skeleton crew for years with no strategy to resolve the issues in the very near future… we are hearing he could be FIRED this Tuesday ??

Mr. Poag, the Exit 1 city manager that was accused by police of putting hands on his wife’s neck and then vowing to retaliate on the cops that arrested him for the incident, finds himself in some hot water in Exit 1.

According to sources he can’t even get a meeting with the Commissioners to discuss issues and complaints, may lead to his firing this Tuesday?

Allegedly covering up for a City “administrator” being in an accident involving a city vehicle and being off the clock ? What was that city vehicle doing out at 2:00 am?

According to sources some Commissioners are ready to remove him and possibly give Mayor Thompson the powers of a strong Mayor minus the salary of over $200k.

According to sources Poag has many Exit 1 commissioners on probable Ethics complaints and could be the reason why they kept him this long and not removed him?
